A state lawmaker from New York City has authored a bill that would end riflery, trap shooting and archery as a sport in public schools. Assemblywoman Linda B. Rosenthal, a Democrat who represents the 67th Assembly District in western Manhattan, introduced the bill on April 20. At this point, there is no co-sponsor for it in the state Senate. The bill, A10428, which was sent to the Assembly's Education Committee, would amend the state's Education Law and calls for the "prohibition of marksmanship and/or shooting programs in public schools" - a change that "shall take effect immediately."

The City College of New York’s Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter wants the school’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) kicked off campus, according to a Monday report. The college’s YDSA chapter announced its desire to ban the group from campus in a flyer presumably found on campus and posted to Twitter Friday, reported Campus Reform. “ROTC off our campus,” said the socialist students. “The rich will never die for you…don’t die for the rich.”

An apparent supporter of President Trump got into an argument with a man on a subway train and later pushed him onto the tracks, police said Saturday. The 24-year-old victim had been accosted by his assailant, who was wearing a “Make America Great Again’’ hat, on a No.4 train on Friday. Police said the attacker, who is African-American, spewed anti-Hispanic slurs at the victim. They both got off at Union Square, where the victim was shoved off the platform.

The governor's race is getting a bit more crowded. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, a Republican, kicked-off his campaign for the statehouse Monday. He attacked Gov. NEW YORK – A former top aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo was convicted on corruption charges Tuesday at a trial that further exposed the state capital's culture of backroom deal-making. Five people were killed when a private helicopter with six people on board crashed into the East River in New York City on Sunday, authorities said. Three people transported to area hospitals after the crash later died, New York Fire Department spokesman Jim Long said. Two others were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. A tourist helicopter plunged into the East River on Sunday night, leaving at least five people trapped inside the sinking vessel while the pilot scrambled to safety, police sources said. In October 2016, two men were target shooting in rural New York.  They were sighting in rifles for the upcoming deer season.They could see about a thousand feet, but there was no obvious backstop on the flat ground.  They had two .308 Winchester rifles, a Del-Ton AR, and a pistol.
