BAGHDAD, Iraq - Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al-Qaida’s leader in Iraq who led a bloody campaign of suicide bombings and kidnappings, has been killed in an air strike, U.S. and Iraqi officials said Thursday, adding that his identity was confirmed by fingerprints and a look at his face. It was a major victory in the U.S.-led war in Iraq and the broader war on terror.

I am curious why none of the media covers the most important aspect of the Malvo shootings. If you look at Newspapers on the dates when the shootings are underway you discover something I find quite interesting. The shootings begin to dominate the news the day before the debate on the Iraq war starts and they catch them the day after the declaration of war??? If you ask most people "do you remember the debate about starting the second Iraq war", they will all answer "yes of course". But if you followup with the question "name one point in the...

I recently received a reply to a post that stated: "This should be beneath a "freeper". Sad." So I asked.. what is it that makes a FReeper? My reply (and I will admit was tasteless) was also questioning. It stirred controversy and was removed? Why Moderators? Can you not tell me? Did it not meet with your "FReeper" mentality? According to all posted guidelines it should be listed but no, you chose to delete it. Yes.. I'm the first one IBTZ, I'm sure you'll nick me for speaking up..

Many argue that communism will never be possible because of "human nature". The essence of this false argument is the belief that a communist society would consist of an all-powerful central government that would tell everybody what to do--and would therefore undermine the creative initiative of individuals and the search for happiness. • This argument is based on two false assumptions: (1) It assumes that a communist society will look like the former Soviet Union, or the current China, North Korea, etc (ie: corrupt police states with a feudal-style ruling class) (2) It assumes that people will only work in...

The Democratic Party of John Kerry and John Edwards is transforming itself in ways that ultimately will leave Bill Clinton and Al Gore on the outside looking in. When it comes to shaping the Democrats' image and the eventual nominee's message and policy positions, the new stars won't look to Clinton and Gore. Overall, the former leaders' influence is diminishing, many political experts say. To be sure, the former president and his vice president, the latter the unsuccessful 2000 presidential nominee, will get window-dressing roles at the Democratic National Convention in Boston in July. Both will be active to some...

From "Many Shades of Folly" by Roger Banks; published in NewsMax and The Legal Times. Advancement in age guarantees no corresponding advancement in wisdom, as Shakespeare's uncrowned Lear attests on the heath of his personal and political ruin, lamenting, "I am old . . . and foolish!" But, alas, one need not invoke Elizabethan tragedy to recognize this time-honored principle. As revealed in Sen. Zell Miller's magnificent new book, A National Party No More, the marriage of old age and folly is a daily matinee in Washington, especially among leaders of the author's own Democratic Party. In words that are...

<p>Conservative talk show host Melanie Morgan couldn't resist a little day-after gloating Wednesday, wallowing in the afterglow of a Republican measuring the drapes in the governor's mansion.</p>
<p>"Vindication is a powerful word," said Morgan, who helped birth the recall petition drive on the KSFO-AM 560 morning show she co-hosts. "Almost from the beginning, every liberal media outlet in the state referred to us as right- wing fanatics, a fringe political movement. We were derided as complete nutballs.</p>

PLEASE -- NO MORE DOOM & GLOOM VANITIES ETC. ABOUT THIS ELECTION! FOCUS ON DEFEATING CLINTON democRATS What I have witnessed on FR this close to the election is driving me nuts. I have seen more personal vanities or comments on threads about how we are going to lose this race or that race, or fretting over polls, or something someone said on a cable news channel. Frankly I am tired of the doom and gloom. We have some really pro-active Freepers for our Republican candidates and all of us should appreciate all of them. The Florida Freepers jump out...
