Bob Knight, one of the most legendary college basketball coaches of all time, died Wednesday at the age of 83. Knight was a three-time national champion and made five Final Fours, all during his 29-season tenure at Indiana. Knight's first head coaching job was with Army in 1965; he took the Hoosiers job in 1971, where he stayed until 2000. He then coached Texas Tech from 2001-2008. "It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family," his website said. "We are grateful for all the thoughts...

Before Friday, a No. 16 seed had never beaten a No. 1 seed, much less a No. 1 overall seed. They were 0-135. But the University of Maryland-Baltimore County -- yes, the little-known UMBC Retrievers -- proved even the longest of odds aren't totally insurmountable.

For those of you who still have perfect brackets after the first full day of the NCAA tournament, congratulations. For those who have already had to tear their brackets up, you might not like this video. The folks at ESPN decided to make an entire bracket based off a rat maze, picking the winners based on which rat finished the race first. The final bracket may feature some wild upsets, but through the first day of the round of 64, the rat bracket is 15-1—correctly picking every game on Thursday except for Pittsburgh taking down Colorado. With that 15-1 record,...

I'm not out to put down any other team, just share a story. As a little girl growing up near Syracuse, I became a huge basketball and football fan. My Dad was a huge fan and if we weren't at the game, we had the radio on and the TV turned down. If there were more then just he and I watching a game, we each had our Walkmans on to listen to the local guys, especially during football season, because they didn't bother trying to explain the rules of the game to those that just tuned in to "the...

Here are highlights from the Missouri Tigers 102-91 victory over the Memphis Tigers last night, advancing Missouri into the Elite Eight of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Missouri shocked Memphis with tenacious defense and by putting on an offensive clinic as they rolled over a Memphis defense which had only given up an average of 57 points per game. But many of those games were not against the caliber of team they faced in Missouri. Missouri will face Connecticut tomorrow as they try and win the school's first ever trip to the Final Four. . . . . (Watch Video...

A job title usually tells what we do, not who we are, but it was different with Ray Meyer. He was a husband for 46 years and a father of six children. Most of all, though, he was a basketball coach. For Meyer, who died of congestive heart failure Friday afternoon at age 92, his job description was his life description. That's why his late wife, Marge, and his six kids didn't call him Ray or Dad. They called him "Coach." It was a tribute to his dedication to the game and the young men who played it for him...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Former University of Kentucky basketball star Rex Chapman says school officials tried to stop him from dating black women, and asked him to at least hide the relationships to keep from inflaming fans. "There were certain aspects of my time there that were really ugly," Chapman, who is white, said in a story published by The Courier-Journal on Monday. "I don't know how it is today, but that's how it was 20 years ago." Chapman said scrutiny of his private life by athletic department officials, boosters and others hastened his departure from Kentucky. He left after...
