A Look Back At The Life Of Myron Cope PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― From the Terrible Towel to the memorable Pittsburgh sayings, Myron Cope is a legend in sports broadcasting, but today his distinctive voice was silenced. He was 79. And when it comes to colorful characters, Pittsburgh has produced none more unique than Cope. But before Cope ever graced the airwaves, he was celebrated for his outstanding writing and special features for Sports Illustrated and the Saturday Evening Post. He was a star in the world of sports writing, but otherwise an unknown. Then in 1968, a radio executive invited...

Official Website of the Pittsburgh Steelers This year is quickly moving in the wrong direction with regards to an effective playoff run. What are your thoughts on the some of the issues and how things need to change for a turnaround in 2006? Me? #1 The Running Game The running game isn't quite at the level of past teams. Understatement of the year, huh? Operating a historically ball control offense, without a featured back capable of providing a consistent 3-4 yrds per carry, is a problem. That void allows pass coverages more flexibility without fear of a Steeler running...

Former Pittsburgh Steelers radio broadcaster Myron Cope was involved in a multicar fender-bender on the Parkway West, state police said. The crash happened a little after 11:30 a.m. Friday in the inbound lanes near Banksville Road as traffic was approaching the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Cope's rented Ford Explorer was one of five vehicles involved in the wreck. Police said all drivers had their seat belts on and nobody was injured.

Steelers fans want more than a win over the Seattle Seahawks on Super Bowl Sunday. They also want Myron Cope back in the broadcast booth. ... But it's not going to happen. "It's really just not realistic from the standpoint of his health," said Joe Gordon, a former Steelers publicist and close friend of Cope. Gordon, speaking on Cope's behalf, said the 77-year-old Mt. Lebanon resident was hospitalized with pneumonia just a few weeks ago. Cope has been troubled by health problems in recent years and had throat surgery in

The Pittsburgh Steelers troop into a hotel lobby the night before a game, scores of black-and-gold-wearing fans huddling anxiously in waiting for their favorite star. Player upon player goes by, yet he still hasn't shown up, and the crowd is growing nervous. Finally, amid a sea of mountainous men who tower over him by at least a half-foot, a small septuagenarian man appears to a frenzied response: "Myron! Over here! Sign my Terrible Towel! Myron, give me a hug!" It's a familiar scene for announcer Myron Cope, who, at age 75, remains as popular in Pittsburgh as the players whose...

<p>There was something about the lives of several teammates that intrigued Pittsburgh Steeler Tunch Ilkin more than 20 years ago. "They were different. There was something about them that I had never seen in men before," he said. "They had a sense of humility, a sense of joy, and they had a love for each other. They lived a life that demanded an explanation."</p>
