Choral music not heard since the time of Henry VIII has been brought to life for the first time in 500 years, as an academic unearths an untouched manuscript and shows it to a modern choir. The manuscript, a book of 34 religious songs, was given to Henry VIII as a lavish gift from a French diplomat in his early reign. Containing songs referencing Henry and his then-bride Catherine of Aragon, it is considered the most "luxurious" surviving diplomatic gift of its kind. It remained in the Royal Collection after the king's death, and was later given to the nation...

I really need FReeper help if you don't mind. Son has a talent show coming up and we thought "Old Army Hat" would be great. Great vocal range for him because he is in JHS. The song is especially poignant for him because an older soldier who did work on our home took a liking to him and gave him his army cap. I burst with tears. He's going to wear the hat for the performance. Also, his GF (WW2 Pacific) went on Honor Flight and son still remembers it. He wants to honor them both at his performance. Does...

Back in the days before recordings were made on magnetic tape, all songs on record had to have a defined and definite ending. But around 1950, recording engineers using new reel-to-reel recorders realized that could just fade out a song. The concept was simple: play the hook/chorus of the song over and over again as it got softer and softer before disappearing entirely. This technique (a) eliminated the need to write an ending for the song; (b) helped the hook become more memorable for the listener; and (c) supposedly gave the listener that the emotional promises made by the song...

Rihanna has responded, and so has CBS. The uber-popular singer took to Twitter Tuesday morning to take a hard shot at CBS for wanting to run the Rihanna/Jay Z Thursday Night Football opener this week after pulling the segment from last week's premiere. She tweeted: "CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, F*** you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this." Well, now CBS is "moving in a different direction." After the Rihanna tweets went viral, CBS responded by issuing a statement saying it was permanently editing a song...

Cosimo Matassa, the legendary recording engineer and studio owner who helped introduce and shape New Orleans' early rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll sound and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and recognized with a Grammy for his efforts, died Thursday. He was 88. Matassa was sidelined by a stroke in recent years and his health had declined over the past few months, according to his family. Matassa's face, or even his name, may not have been known to some, but the sound he helped create defined a generation. From the 1940s through the 1970s,...

Or sooner; What has the US done to the music tradition of Western Civilization? There are plenty of Americans who understand and appreciate great composers like Beethoven, Vivaldi, Albinoni, Bach and Mozart, but something must be wrong with a nation that year after year produces crap like the music of 50 Cent, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. I'm European and I admit we make a lot of worthless music too, but at least we Europeans are fostered in the great tradition of composers like the giants mentioned above.

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)Pharrell Williams told CNN's Don Lemon that President Barack Obama "needs to come down" to Ferguson, Missouri to see firsthand the aftermath of the shooting of Michael Brown. "When your parents come into the room — whether it's you or your cousin that knocked the vase down — both of y'all sit up at attention," said the producer. "This is a deeper laceration in this country. This is going to be the longest hangover in race relations ever." While Pharrell might not have been as vocal as his hip-hop peers following Brown's death, the Neptunes producer and The Voice judge...
