UNITED NATIONS (AP) — North Korea said Friday it can't pay nearly $184,000 in dues to the United Nations because of U.N. sanctions that prevent the transfer of funds from Pyongyang. North Korea's U.N. Mission said sanctions imposed by the Security Council in early August on the Foreign Trade Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which is in charge of international transactions, made payment impossible. The mission said Ambassador Ja Song Nam met Undersecretary-General for Management Jan Beagle Friday afternoon to request the opening of "banking channels" to make the DPRK's required $183,458 payment for 2018 for the...

Thieves have discovered a new way to exploit older ATM's into spitting out every dollar they hold. It's called jackpotting because of the speed of the bills flying out, resembling how slot machines used to pay out coins. The Secret Service has warned financial institutions to expect a wave of jackpotting over the next week to 10 days, based on its investigation of ATM crimes in several parts of the country. The U.S. appears to be the latest target. In 2016, jackpotting yielded $13 million from ATM's. Twelve European countries and Mexico have also been hit recently. Ahmed Banafa, from...

How much inflation are we really seeing today, and is it likely to rise further as the Fed “unwinds” its Quantitative Easing securities purchases, and a more active economy pushes up wages and prices? Free Market Central put these questions to economist John Williams, whose ShadowStats alternative economic indicators are featured on our home page. Williams has long insisted that federal economic statistics do not tell the whole story. For years, he explains, the government has been gaming the numbers. Not only is inflation understated; given current trends, it’s only going to get worse.

My husband, Harmon Wilfred, a former CIA financial contractor (asset) during the Clinton administration, blew the whistle to the US Justice Department in the year 2000 to no avail on the Clinton's involvement with the CIA in the illegal laundering of BILLIONS of dollars. Harmon perseveres in his effort to make his extensive evidence available to the US Justice Department, while we continue to be maltreated by the New Zealand government in collusion with the United States. Harmon is currently stateless, exiled in New Zealand, and forcibly separated from me, his wife of 20 years, by New Zealand Immigration for...

If you’re counting on Social Security to finance your retirement, you’re in for a big surprise—and not the good kind. Let me give you two reasons why. One: Social Security is going broke. And, two: Even if it weren’t going broke, it couldn’t possibly cover the cost of a decent retirement. Let’s look at these two reasons in a little more detail, and then I’ll propose a solution. Social Security is going broke. When this government program was set up in 1935, the average life expectancy was 60. But you couldn’t collect your first check until you reached 65. In...

When is a penny worth $300,000? When it's one of the first copper coins struck at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, in 1793. The annual Florida United Numismatists (FUN) convention is being held in Tampa this week, and three historic coins, including the pricey penny, went up for auction Thursday evening. Mark Borckardt, a senior numismatist with Heritage Auctions in Dallas, said the George Washington-era penny is one of about 500 in existence. The 63rd annual FUN Convention also features 'over 600 dealer booths, a competitive exhibit area, 15 educational programs' and a host of other activities. FUN describes itself...

An "exceptional and rare" medieval treasure trove including more than 2,200 gold and silver coins has been found in France in what has been called a "remarkable" discovery by archaeologists. It's the kind of discovery archaeologists dream of. While investigating an area next to the former Benedictine monastery Cluny Abbey in eastern France, a research group came across a pile of medieval treasure. Photo: Alexis Grattier/University of Lyon II "It's an exceptional and extremely rare treasure," said Anne Flamman from France's National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). Lawmakers put the finishing touches this week on military funding legislation that contains a provision that stands to significantly benefit Amazon. The amendment, Section 801 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), would help Amazon establish a tight grip on the lucrative, $53 billion government acquisitions market, experts say. The provision, dubbed the “Amazon amendment” by experts, according to an article in The Intercept, would allow for the creation of an online portal that government employees could use to purchase everyday items such as office supplies or furniture.

“He assaulted his stepson severely enough that he fractured his skull, and he also assaulted his wife,” said Don Christensen, a retired colonel who was the chief prosecutor for the Air Force. “He pled to intentionally doing it.”...He was sentenced in November of that year to 12 months’ confinement and reduction to the lowest possible rank. After his confinement, he was discharged from the military with a bad conduct discharge. It is unclear whether his conviction would have barred him from purchasing a gun. The case marked a long downward slide that included divorce...After Mr. Kelley was discharged from the...

A recent study of the behavior of Tinder users says the app allegedly reinforces “ancient mating behaviour†because -- shockingly -- women want high-status men and men want good-looking women. The Scotsman reports psychologists at the University of Aberdeen studied the Tinder behavior of 20-somethings and found that men wanted women who were physical attractive, while women sought out signifiers of status, such as “good career prospects, stability and intelligence.†Dr Mirjam Brady-Van den Bos said the results reveal “we haven’t really changed in all those millennia of evolution.†“Tinder is seen as a sophisticated but artificial way of meeting...

Had to right this. And no, I didn't make a mistake. Here in fragrant Los Angeles there is a new scam sweeping the streets. It's all the rage man! What the scumbags do is get a picture of a little baby, post it on a piece of cardboard, and write on it that little FuFu doesn't have any money for a funeral. They also write rest in peace and all of that. Then said scumbags, there are usually about 3 or 4, walk thru the L.A. traffic that is stopped at the light and beg for funeral money for little...

Bill O’Reilly claimed in an interview Tuesday that a recording exists of an “anti-Trump†lawyer offering money to a woman to accuse Donald Trump of sexual harassment during the presidential campaign. O’Reilly told Newsmax that a tape exists where a female attorney offers $200,000 to a woman to accuse Trump of sexual harassment before the election. He said, “It exists. We have urged the person who has the tape to hand it over to the U.S. attorney, because my investigative team believes there are three separate crimes on the audio tape.†O’Reilly added, “it’s related to my situation.†The former Fox...
