A young mother pushing her baby boy in a stroller was repeatedly stabbed in Dorchester this afternoon, police and witnesses said. Boston Police said a woman was stabbed on Midland Street around 4 p.m. The mother, who appeared to be in her early 20s, then ran around the corner, still pushing her stroller, before she collapsed in front of an ice cream shop on Savin Hill Avenue, said Savin Scoops owner Joe Conway. “She was stabbed pretty badly,” said Conway. “There was blood all over the stroller.”

Each shot that the pros -- or the kids -- made triggered a few pushups for everyone playing, including the president, who willingly got down on the ground in his blue dress shirt and khakis. "Somebody saw me cheating on my push ups," he joked at one point. Later on, he signed a red, white and blue basketball decorated printed with his face and "44th President."
  • Carney: OK, so maybe Obama needs a little practice

Jay Carney jokingly conceded that perhaps the leader of the free world needs to spend some more time on the court. "The president doesn’t get to practice probably as much as he would like to," he said, adding "Having done a few shoot-arounds with him, he’s a pretty good shot." When a reporter noted that there's a basketball court on the White House grounds, Carney replied, "These are busy times."

Crimson Soldiers remembered on Veterans' Day By JOHN C. WITTER Managing Editor Emeritus Posted Nov 11, 2009 SPORTSWRITERS OFTEN DESCRIBE athletes with generous amounts of melodrama and grandeur, using (and overusing) terms like “heroic” to describe their feats. But when the big picture makes its way back into our consciousness -- say, when our nation goes to war -- we realize what an inadequate home a basketball court or football field is for a word like “hero.” No, that word belongs at the frontlines and foxholes of foreign soils, with men and women much too far from home and family...

And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, “Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen; remember how He spoke unto you when He was yet in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’” And they remembered His words. – Luke 24: 4-7

He could play the piano by ear in the first grade. His artistic and creative bent set him apart from the other boys, and this sense of being different grew steadily over time. “I could hear a song on the radio and sit down and play it,” says Dennis Jernigan, acclaimed Christian songwriter and musician. His life is the subject of the forthcoming feature film “Sing Over Me” that will focus on his deliverance from homosexuality, when God made him a new creature in Christ. Jernigan grew up in Boynton, Oklahoma, a prairie town of only 400 people about 50...

An array of Jewish groups urged President Obama and Congress to ease the path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Nineteen national groups and dozens of local groups and clergy signed on to a letter sent last Friday that was timed for Passover. “American Jews know too well the impact of restrictive immigration policies, and we have seen how the immigration issue can become a flashpoint for xenophobia,” said the letter, which was spearheaded by the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. Signatories represented all four major Jewish religious streams as well as the major Jewish civil rights groups, and the federation and...

Trying to cool down the resurgent property market, two of China’s biggest cities announced over the weekend that they would put in place a series of restrictions and penalties on housing sales. … The announcements came a few weeks after China’s State Council, or cabinet, said the government would take stronger action to ensure that property prices do not continue to soar, fueling what many analysts believe is a real estate bubble that could seriously damage the economy and exacerbate social tensions between the rich and the poor. …

NEW YORK - Exxon Mobil was working to clean up thousands of barrels of oil in Mayflower, Arkansas, after a pipeline carrying heavy Canadian crude ruptured, a major spill likely to stoke debate over transporting Canada’s oil to the United States. Exxon shut the Pegasus pipeline, which can carry more than 90,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil from Pakota, Illinois, to Nederland, Texas, after the leak was discovered on Friday afternoon, the company said in a statement. Exxon, hit with a $1.7 million fine by regulators this week over a 2011 spill in the Yellowstone River, said a...

Because restaurants typically operate on razor-thin margins, President Obama's signature health-care reform law has largely been criticized by the industry for imposing onerous new costs that will potentially wipe out whatever profits they make. Under the Affordable Care Act, companies with 50 or more employees have to provide them health insurance if they work 30 hours or more, or else face a $2,000-per-employee penalty. That led many restaurant operators, such as the CEO of Olive Garden and Red Lobster parent Darden Restaurant's (NYSE: DRI ) , to say worker hours would have be cut to avoid paying for expensive health-insurance...
