The burning buildings, smashed police cars and scuffles between police officers and angry protesters on Milwaukee’s north side over the weekend might have seemed like a spontaneous eruption. But for many in the city’s marginalized black community, it was an explosive release decades in the making. Milwaukee is one of the United States’ most segregated cities, where black men are incarcerated or unemployed at some of the highest rates in the country, and where the difference in poverty between black and white residents is about one and a half times the national average. There are barren lots and worn-down homes...

An anti-white reign of Black Lives Matter terror consumed Milwaukee Saturday after a black cop shot a black, gun-wielding suspect for refusing to drop his weapon when lawfully commanded to do so. Gov. Scott Walker (R) activated Wisconsin's National Guard as a precaution but calm had apparently been restored Sunday. The officer who shot the suspect was African-American, police said. His name was not given but he was described as a 24-year-old who'd been with the police department for six years, the last three as an officer.

When police identified Sylville Smith as the Milwaukee man shot by an officer Saturday, triggering a violent uprising on the city’s mostly black north side, Chief Edward Flynn cited Smith’s “lengthy criminal record.” Online court records showed multiple charges against the 23-year-old Smith dating back to 2013. One was as minor as retail theft — which was dismissed — and other less serious offenses included speeding, driving without insurance, driving with a suspended license or having open intoxicants in a vehicle. There were more serious charges. Smith was accused in a shooting last year and charged with recklessly endangering safety,...

Jobs are not fungible... Since President Obama was elected, black Americans may have seen their joblessness decline - but since President Obama was elected, income inequality for black Americans has soared...
