Mass shootings in major metropolitan areas in the United States disproportionately affect Black people, and structural racism may play a role, according to a study published on Wednesday in the journal JAMA Surgery. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee police say both the man whose fatal shooting sparked violent protests in the city and the police officer who shot him are black. Chief Edward Flynn made the disclosure at a news conference Sunday. Flynn identified the man killed Saturday as 23-year-old Sylville K. Smith, and says Smith had a “lengthy arrest record.” Mayor Tom Barrett says a still image pulled from the officer’s body camera shows “without question” that Smith had a gun in his hand when he was shot.

Suge Knight has reportedly killed a man after engaging in a fight on set of a film project in Compton, TMZ reports. According to the site, the co-founder of Death Row Records got into an altercation with two crew members on set of the project — which involved the Game, Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre — and then fled to his car, where he took off and ran over a bystander.

Six men and a woman were wounded during separate shootings since Wednesday in Chicago. In the latest shooting, a 25-year-old man was shot during a robbery around 2 a.m. in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines. The man was in the 6000 block of South Carpenter Street when he was approached by two male offenders who announced a robbery and then fired gunshots, striking him in the leg. The offenders fled the scene with the man's jacket and cell phone.
