A mental health exam for Marci Webber, accused of slashing her 4-year-old daughter to death earlier this month in Bloomingdale, has been delayed at least a week due to concerns by her attorneys. DuPage County prosecutors got permission last week from Judge George Bakalis to conduct a psychiatric evaluation on Webber, 43, to determine if she was mentally competent when she allegedly killed Magdalene "Maggie" Webber in Webber's mother's town house.

Criminal proceedings against the man accused of kidnapping Jaycee Lee Dugard have been sensationally halted because of concerns about his mental state. Superior Court Judge Douglas Phimister made the decision yesterday after a short pre-trial hearing for Phillip Garrido. LINCOLN — An Omaha man who once expressed homicidal and suicidal thoughts was wrongly denied a state handgun buyer’s permit by the Douglas County sheriff, the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled Friday. Joseph D. Gallegos had never been "committed" to a mental institution under the definition of the 1968 federal gun law, according to the court’s unanimous opinion. He should not, therefore, have been denied a handgun permit in 2007, the court said.
