In recent decades, a revisionist history of American trade policy has developed an almost religious status in Washington D.C. In this context, the candidacy of Donald Trump has been presented as a deviation from America’s historic “free trade” policy when, in fact, America was founded on Alexander Hamilton’s protectionist economic system whose greatest defenders would become Abraham Lincoln’s Republican Party.

So I just stopped by the Corner blog at National Review Online to see their reaction to Trump's speech today. To my surprise, there wasn't a single post commenting on it. The NR writers spent the day posting about Brexit, and about Rubio's senate run, and about a picture of Trump they don't like. But not a word about Trump's speech. If that isn't proof that Trump hit a home run today, I don't know what is.

A coalition of Republican delegates is mounting a last-ditch effort to block Donald Trump from obtaining the GOP nomination by pushing for a "conscience clause" that would allow delegates to vote against the presumptive nominee. Kendal Unruh, a Colorado delegate, organized a call with dozens of other delegates Thursday night to discuss ways to block Trump at the convention. The group, Unruh says, marks the coalescing of disparate "pockets of resistance" -- including backers of Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich -- which had been opposing Trump with little success.

Mark Levin came out firing in response to the disgusting street riots in San Jose last night outside a Donald Trump rally. The protesters were carrying Mexican flags, burning American flags, and assaulting Trump supporters as well as police officers. Levin said, at this point, its not only an attack on the right, or on Trump, but "an attack on America." Le Pen is, not to mince words, a racist, a bigot, a bully, and a misogynist. In other words, he is a man exactly like Donald Trump. This November, Trump must not only lose. Like Le Pen, he must be shamed. American voters must send a message to him— and everyone who would be like him, here and around the world— that whatever shortcomings we may have as a country, Trump will not and cannot be our leader.

In case you missed it, Donald Trump held a firebrand press conference Tuesday where he attacked and obliterated the political media. The media figures present were grilling Trump over the details of his fundraising for veterans and whether or not the GOP nominee was honest about the money raised. But every time they punched, Trump punched back, and harder. It was quality entertainment. Mark Levin played a few clips from the presser and acknowledged, "yes its entertaining" before saying, "but I want more than entertainment." Yes, its entertaining he later reassured, but "our country is going to hell!"
