A California woman says Veterans Administration hospital guards beat her husband to death after he waited four hours for dialysis. Norma Montano says her husband of 44 years, Jonathan, died of a stroke on June 11, 2011, after he was beaten and had his carotid artery stomped by VA guards. PAGOSA SPRINGS - In a town in scenic southwestern Colorado homeowners are battling over whether a Christmas wreath that includes a peace sign is an anti-Iraq war protest or even a promotion of Satan. "We have had three or four complaints. Some people have kids in Iraq and they are sensitive," said Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs. He also said some believe it is a symbol of Satan. Jeff Heitz, of the association board, sent a letter to Lisa Jensen saying: "Loma Linda residents are offended by the peace sign displayed on the...

Without a single liquor store, and legally smoke-free for nearly three decades, the tiny hillside town of Loma Linda brims with pride about its devotion to health and spiritual well-being. So news that the first McDonald's was coming to town, with its special-sauce-slathered Big Macs and 500-calorie sheaves of large fries, has triggered enough political reflux to put City Hall on the defensive. "McDonald's does not fit the Loma Linda brand of health and wellness," said Dr. Wayne Dysinger, head of preventive medicine at the medical school. "Compare it to smoking laws: There's no question that smoking is harmful to...

HAPPYBIRTHDAYRUSH2007 Born, January 12, 1951 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. 35 Undeniable Reasons to CelebrateRush Limbaugh’s Birthdayby Chris Davis(Writer33) It has been three long years since I wrote the essay: Rush Limbaugh is “The Passion.” His continued labors in conservatism have shown that Americans support the conservative ideology, largely because of their guiding principles, not the vehicle behind that ideology. It is the same with Rush Limbaugh. A little over three years ago Rush Limbaugh announced his addiction to prescription drugs. The media, the Palm Beach County prosecuting attorney, and some conservatives were ready to march Limbaugh down the gang...

LOMA LINDA It has been 13 days since Elodia Torres looked into the eyes of her nine-month-old-son. Manuel Adam Torres lay motionless on life support at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. Elodia had to stand on a small step just to caress her son. She did so carefully so not to disturb the dozens of lines and tubes connecting his body to life support systems. Her husband, Marine Sgt. Jose Torres stood beside her. The baby, on life support in Loma Linda University Children's Hospital since Labor Day, was sedated as his parents wait. Elodia took Manuel from the Torres'...
