  • Contact lenses found to shed microplastics

    06/17/2023 4:51:04 PM PDT · by ConservativeMind · 11 replies
Millions of people around the world wear contact lenses, including reusable ones. But these plastic lenses don't last forever, and lenses need to be replaced every few days, weeks or months. Though scientists are still grappling to understand the health and environmental impacts of microplastics, it is important to understand where they can appear and what systems they could impact. When measuring aquatic microplastic pollution, researchers generally filter plastic fragments from large amounts of sampled water. The researchers gathered six kinds of contact lenses from various brands and of different lifespans. To mimic normal wear and care, the lenses were...
  • I'm Sorry for this Vanity. Cataract Surgery - YIKES!!

Hey FReoples! I'm too young for cataracts, but so is my sister so apparently it's a genetic condition. Went to the Ophthalmologist earlier today on a referral from my Optometrist who discovered them a month ago. Was expecting "Oh, yeah, but you can wait a few years" but got "Oh, the right eye is pretty bad, you should do this now". Then I got the impression this was a production line deal, the Doc wanted me to file for insurance approval and make all appointments on the spot more or less, and THEN went into his sales pitch about lasers...
  • British surgeons find 27 contact lenses lodged in woman's eye

    07/16/2017 7:13:14 AM PDT · by BenLurkin · 24 replies
The lenses, which were described as a "blueish mass", were causing her discomfort that she attributed to dry eye and old age, British media reported after the case was published in the British Medical Journal on Jul 5. Eye specialists initially discovered 17 lenses "bound together by mucus", before a further examination revealed that another 10 lenses were stuck in the eye. Rupal Morjaria, a specialist trainee ophthalmologist who dealt with the case at Solihull Hospital near Birmingham, reportedly said: "We were really surprised that the patient didn’t notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while...

For some Parkinson's patients, its been proven that RED light can trigger spasms or dyskinesia, while the BLUE spectrum tends to relieve those episodes. That is why Hillary wore the medical COBALT BLUE sunglasses on 9/11, and she and all her entourage were also decked out in BLUE that day. Its a shame and tragedy for millions of Parkinson's sufferers worldwide that Hillary's sycophants at YouTube (a division of Google) would DELETE dramatic clinical evidence of helpful Parkinson's information from the internet regarding BLUE sunglasses! All across the web including here at FR, there have been links to two popular...
  • Finding Zeiss Z1 blue lenses to treat photosensitive epilepsy

    09/11/2016 1:30:23 PM PDT · by COUNTrecount · 3 replies
From article. I found a study which shows that Carl Zeiss brand z1 blue lenses are highly effective in treating photosensitive epilepsy. The study is at: http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1528-1167.2006.00463.x?prevSearch=allfield%3A%28z1%29. These lenses are available in Europe, but I haven't been able to find them in the US or on the internet. I emailed Zeiss customer service about this, but I got no response. Does anyone know where I can find these lenses. I suffer from photosensitivity (as well as temporal lobe epilepsy). I use polarized glasses, and these help some, but I'd really love to try these lenses.

Nikon has unveiled a new superzoom compact camera called the P510 that offers a ridiculous 42x optical zoom — the highest zoom ratio ever seen in such a camera. In 35mm terms, the lens goes from a 24mm on the wide-angle side to a 1000mm on the telephoto end. The 16.1MP camera also boasts a 3-inch LCD screen, 1080p video recording, GPS, 5fps continuous shooting, and ISO 3200. It’ll hit store shelves later this month with a price tag of $430.

LOS ANGELES — As a promising Caltech graduate student in applied physics, Stephen Kurtin could have taken a job offer from Intel at the dawn of the microelectronics era 40 years ago. Instead he followed the path of a lone inventor, gaining more than 30 patents in fields including word processing software and sound systems, culminating in the pair of glasses resting on his nose, which he believes can free nearly two billion people around the world from bifocals, trifocals and progressive lenses. The glasses have a tiny adjustable slider on the bridge of the frame that makes it possible...
  • New Microscope Ditches The Lenses

(CNET) Researchers have come up with a microscopic microscope, tiny enough to fit on a fingertip, that can be cheaply mass-produced and used to scan blood and water for pathogens. The high-resolution microscope functions without the large and expensive lenses usually associated with such imaging devices. Instead, it combines the chip technology found in digital cameras with "microfluidics," the science of channeling liquid at scales far smaller than a common droplet. "The whole thing is truly compact -- it could be put in a cell phone -- and it can use just sunlight for illumination, which makes it very appealing...

BLURRY snaps could be a thing of the past with the development of a digital camera that refocuses photos after they have been taken. The camera could be useful for action shots taken by sports photographers or for CCTV surveillance cameras, which often produce fuzzy shots due to poor lighting. In an ordinary digital camera, a sensor behind the lens records the light level that hits each pixel on its surface. If the light rays reaching the sensor are not in focus, the image will appear blurry. Now, Pat Hanrahan and his team at Stanford University have figured out how...
