Roseanne Barr's show has gone off the air again. The comedienne broadcast the final edition of her "Roseanne Talk Live" radio show for KCAA 1050 AM on Friday. She started the show, which aired from 5 to 6 p.m. on weekdays, on March 15. Station officials said Barr pulled the plug on her show. "She needed a rest and went off to Hawaii," said Todd Rowan, the station's sales director. He said for now the show is on temporary hiatus. The Emmy-winning actress, who previously starred in her own top television show, broadcast her weekday radio gig with sidekick Johnny...

Tens of thousands marched on Washington last Saturday to protest George Bush's war in Iraq. The crowd included college-age activists, veterans of Vietnam War protests, entire families united against the war, and parents whose children have been killed in Iraq. It was the largest protest yet against this war. Larger ones will almost surely follow. If there had been a soundtrack to Saturday's march past the White House, you couldn't pick a much more appropriate song to kick it off than Jefferson Airplane's "Volunteers." Released in 1969 by one of the most politically acute bands of the era, "Volunteers" was...

Arkansas Official Ousted Over 'Illegal Poem' Leftists went into a frenzy when New Jersey finally dumped its poet laureate after he blamed Israel for 9/11, but we doubt if they'll come to the aid of an Arkansas official ousted because of a very different kind of poem. W.R. "Bud" Harper, Arkansas' top emergency official, resigned under fire today after pressure groups and politicians condemned him for forwarding to his 66 employees "Illegal Poem," which has been all the rage on the Internet. "The forwarded e-mail was neither humorous nor acceptable," huffed GOP Gov. Mike Huckabee. Harper said he regrets sending...

WEIGHING THE PROS & CONS OF MARRIAGE: CON: Shift focus to caretakers, dependents Gayle White - Staff Saturday, March 29, 2003 Q: Does marriage have a future? A: We have to get to the definition of marriage before I can answer that question. Certainly love relationships between adults and reproductive units have a future. Whether marriage as a privileged legal connection has a future, that's a different question. Q: Please expound on what you mean about love relationships and reproductive units. A: People need intimacy and connection. Children need to be cared for. Dependency is a reality, whether it's dependency...
