A suspected home intruder was shot and killed Tuesday night (Sept. 12) in LaPlace by the homeowner, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office. The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the 3000 block of Cambridge Drive, the sheriff's office reports. The man, identified by authorities as 27-year-old Kalvin Ferrygood of Garyville, was transported to a New Orleans hospital where he later died, according to the sheriff's office. A 41-year-old LaPlace man is accused of using gasoline to set fire to his ex-girlfriend's house while her six children were inside. A 5-year-old LaPlace girl died Saturday (May 21) after she accidentally shot herself while playing with a handgun, the St. John the Baptist Sheriff's Office said. Haley Moore was shot in the chest at the home of her father, Eric Moore, on Country Club Drive and brought to a local hospital where she died. Richard "Trip" Klibert, 7, of LaPlace became pretty upset last November when he began noticing changes in his lunch at St. Joan of Arc School in LaPlace.
