CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. – A suspected intruder was shot after trying to break in to a home in Christian County, Kentucky late Sunday night. Authorities said the homeowner heard someone beating on the back door of a home on Sanderson Drive around 10:45 p.m. He looked outside, and didn't recognize the man so he went to get his gun. The homeowner answered the door, and the man allegedly tried to force his way inside. A Laurel County woman fires warning shots and stops a home invasion. It happened Tuesday morning on Hodge Road when the woman woke up to a man had opened her bedroom window and was almost halfway inside. Police say she fired a warning shot into the ceiling startling the burglar and causing him to take off. Police found 35 year old Bobby Green hiding under the house and arrested him. He is charged with burglary, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) - Whatever may be prowling around Ashland doesn't appear to be a typical Kentucky Wildcat. Ashland Police Maj. Todd Kelley said two people have called in reports of seeing a mountain lion or cougar around the city in the last several days. Kelley told The Independent that the sightings haven't been confirmed by animal control officers or police, but people should not approach any unfamiliar large animal.

Senate Republican leaders on Tuesday said there should be an investigation of Attorney General Eric Holder, but stopped short of joining Sen. John Cornyn’s (R-Texas) call for his resignation. (AP) -- Two Kentucky men have been charged with a federal hate crime in a beating attack on a gay man in an Appalachian park, marking the first time the law has been applied in a U.S. case alleging bias over a victim's sexual orientation, authorities said. The Kentucky State Police are investigating a shooting incident that left a man dead at a residence near Green River Lake Saturday night. According to a press release from KSP Post 15 in Columbia, the post was contacted around 9 p.m. Saturday night by Adair County 911 Dispatch requesting assistance with the shooting death of 42-year-old Edward Stickel. Two men have been charged in connection with the attempted robbery of a pharmacy, Lexington police said Wednesday night. The attempt was foiled when an employee pulled a handgun, John E. McGarvey and Steven E. Corman, both 47, were each charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, police Lt. Chris Van Brackel said. Former Republican lieutenant governor candidate and state Rep. Mike Harmon, R-Danville, has filed a bill allowing Kentucky residents to carry concealed firearms without a permit. The legislation would make the unlicensed carrying of a hidden deadly weapon legal and prohibit employers from having no-firearms policies that apply to buildings or parking areas. It also forbids companies from disciplining employees who have firearms in their vehicles or who use them for self-defense. A man is stabbed to death after breaking into someone's home. State police say Edward Crowley forced his way into the home on Keith Whitley Boulevard in Sandy Hook early Sunday morning. The homeowner, Jamie Dillon, then stabbed Crowley when the two got into a fight. Police did not charge Dillon and say it appears he acted in self defense. The case will be presented to a grand jury.

A Richmond man told troopers he shot a burglar in self-defense. Police got a call around 8:30 Saturday morning about a break-in that was happening on Hager drive. Steven Womack later told investigators he was holding the burglar at gunpoint until troopers arrived when the suspect suddenly tried to get out a window. Womack also told troopers when the burglar went to reach for something in his pocket, he shot him three times. Lexington police have obtained an arrest warrant for a would-be robber who they say was shot by his intended victim last week. Darrell Wayne Strunk, 35, of Lexington is wanted in a Dec. 5 robbery at B&N Towing, 336 Lisle Industrial Dr., according to a news release from Lexington police. A man working at the business told police that he was approached by two people, one of whom was holding a handgun.
