  • Court refuses to hear appeal from reputed Klansman

    10/04/2010 12:34:58 PM PDT · by SmithL · 8 replies
WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court won't hear an appeal from reputed Ku Klux Klansman James Ford Seale for the killing of two black men in rural Mississippi in 1964. The high court on Monday turned away Seale's appeal without comment. In March, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the evidence against Seale was sufficient for the jury conviction in the trial that took place 43 years after the crimes. Seale, now 75, was convicted in 2007 of two counts of kidnapping and one of conspiracy to commit kidnapping. He was given three life sentences. Authorities say Henry Hezekiah Dee...

Our former NR colleague, Joe Sobran, passed away today after a long battle with a variety of ailments. He was relatively young, just 64, and while physically beaten at the end, he also departed spiritually triumphant.   Surely, in short order, there will be ample reflection — much of it critical — on the hyper-talented, hyper-controversial writer. There will be a recounting of his history at NR, the break, the following years, and Joe’s soured relationship with WFB (happily, they rekindled their friendship before Bill passed away). Good, let’s discuss all that, and more. But later. Right now, let us,...

Sen. Byrd's family denounces campaign attack adBy Lawrence Messina, Associated Press Writer Sun Sep 5, 5:41 pm ET CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The family of the late Robert C. Byrd blasted the GOP nominee for his U.S. Senate seat Sunday after he used an image from Byrd's memorial service in a TV ad attacking the Democratic nominee. The ad by Republican John Raese's campaign seeks to link President Barack Obama to Gov. Joe Manchin by displaying an image of the two Democrats at the state Capitol ceremony marking Byrd's June 28 death. Raese and Manchin are running in a special election...

A proposal to build a Ku Klux Klan monument steps from the 16th Street Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama received the support of a downtown committee despite some loved ones of 1963 bombing victims finding it offensive. The 13-story White People’s Cultural Center was unanimously endorsed by the 12-member Community Board financial district committee. The $100 million project, called Fiery Cross, is proposed for the old laundromat building at 606 16th Street N, just one block from the site of the September 15, 1963 bombing by members of the Ku Klux Klan that took the lives of four children. “I...

I received permission to post this on my website some time ago, but I believe that these times call for a re-posting of this fine piece. This was written by Bob Parks, from the blog Black-And-Right. Maybe after reading this, the liberals will take a better look at who the racists really are…. The Democrat Race Lie This whopper deserves all the attention it can get. Again, it shows the ignorance and contempt of the electorate liberals depend on. Even TODAY on the Democrats.org website… "Democrats are unwavering in our support of equal opportunity for all Americans. That’s why we’ve...

Byrd to be buried at Arlington cemeteryBy ASSOCIATED PRESS Updated: 12:08 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Family, friends and employees paid last respects Tuesday to Sen. Robert C. Byrd. His casket was carried into Memorial Baptist Church in Arlington, Va., by a military honor guard, and a line formed for the late morning service in this Washington-area suburb. A single red rose, a spray of white ones and the twang of a bluegrass banjo were in the midst as mourners gathered inside a church. The 92-year-old Mr. Byrd, who died last week, was to be...

As politicians and columnists across the country debate the life and legacy of the late Sen. Robert Byrd, the West Virginian’s membership in the Ku Klux Klan has been a sticking point for many. Today’s KKK, though, says Byrd did nothing to warrant such ire. “He wasn’t a Klansman long enough to get his sheet broke in,” said Travis Pierce, national membership director for the Ku Klux Klan, LLC, one of several groups that uses the KKK name. “It’s much ado about nothing.” It’s unknown how long Byrd held membership in the Klan. According to the Washington Post, the future...

Sen. Robert Byrd may join Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy among historic figures who have lain in state in the Capitol Rotunda — an honor only bestowed upon 28 other Americans over the past 160 years. Senate leaders are likely to make a request for Byrd to lie in state, aides said Monday, but they are still awaiting approval from Byrd’s family to go ahead with a formal resolution that would allow Byrd’s casket to rest under the dome for a public viewing. With a career that spanned nearly 58 years and ranked him as the longest-serving member in congressional...

Eidsmoe reportedly spoke at an Alabama Secession rally, Zielinski said. He covered topics touching on slavery and the Constitution. Eidsmoe’s speech in the rally claimed God ordained slavery, and Jefferson Davis was a much better President of the Confederate States than Abraham Lincoln ever was for the United States. “He’s a pseudo-intellectual racist who belongs to the League of the South and whose writings happen to pop up on neo-Nazi websites,” Zielinski said.

After spending a lifetime in politics John C. Calhoun (U.S. Senator, Vice President of the United States, Secretary of War) wrote his brilliant treatise, A Disquisition on Government, which was published posthumously shortly after his death in 1850. In it Calhoun warned that it is an error to believe that a written constitution alone is “sufficient, of itself, without the aid of any organism except such as is necessary to separate its several departments, and render them independent of each other to counteract the tendency of the numerical majority to oppression and abuse of power” (p. 26). The separation of...

Two students at the University of Missouri-Columbia were suspended Wednesday after their arrests in a case of cotton balls thrown across the lawn of the campus black-culture center. Campus police on Tuesday evening arrested the students, one of whom is from the St. Louis area, on suspicion of a felony hate crime. The two were released on bond, and charges were pending. The incident happened early Friday at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center, near the middle of campus. Nathan Stephens, the center's coordinator, said students were offended because of the 'symbolic violence' that harkened to days of slavery on cotton...

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid privately described then-candidate Barack Obama during the presidential campaign as a black candidate who could be successful thanks in part to his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." In a stunning and disgusting show of blatant racism, elitist and white supremacist Harry Reid has been exposed in a new blockbuster book. I didn't know people actually spoke this way. But it's hardly surprising: the Democrats were the party of slavery, KKK Exalted cyclops Robert Byrd, and anti-civil rights until they figured out how to make African...

SAN DIEGO, -- A former Ku Klux Klan imperial wizard says he was ordained in San Diego so he could serve the nation's largest black denomination. Former Klan member Johnny Lee Clary said he was authorized by the Church of God in Christ to take part in the ministry of racial reconciliation and conduct evangelism campaigns, the Tulsa (Okla.) World reported Saturday. After joining the KKK Youth during his younger years, Clark went on to become the national spokesman for the White Knights of the KKK. Clary said after fellow white supremacist Dennis Mahon was connected to a 2004 bombing,...

What I think about secession basically is that it is a consummation devoutly to be wished, but a dangerous pursuit to advocate publicly. Janet Napolitano and the alphabet soup guys do not take kindly to the notion of freedom in any way, and for the precise reason that Abraham Lincoln did not. When asked why he didn’t just let the South go, Lincoln exploded in a rage, “Let the South go? LET THE SOUTH GO? How, then, should I fill my coffers?” Documented historical fact. Look it up for yourselves. Winners write history and the North/Leftists have had nearly 160...

When the clock strikes midnight tonight, Sen. Robert Byrd will become the longest-serving member of Congress ever — a capstone on a remarkable career in which the adopted son of a coal miner propelled himself from poverty to the pinnacle of legislative power, where he could, did and still does send billions of federal dollars back across the Blue Ridge to help build his home state of West Virginia. Byrd’s stat sheet speaks for itself: • Served 20,774 days — or 56 years and 10½ months — in Congress • Attended 18,582 Senate roll call votes • Elected to Senate...
