Buzz out of Washington this morning is that the Obama administration has signaled it will end efforts to try 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a civilian trial and instead will use the Gitmo military tribunal system pursued by, yes, George W. Bush. AG Eric Holder is reportedly holding a 2pm Eastern press conference. Here’s a blurb from CBS: Attorney General Eric Holder today will announce that self-proclaimed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad will be tried in a military commission, CBS News has learned. A source says the commission will be held at the Guantanamo Bay prison. Trying Mohammed...

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed will likely be held in military prison without a trial indefinitely as the Obama administration decides what to do with the 9/11 mastermind, according to a new report. A trial - civilian or military - is not expected to happen before the next presidential election, the Washington Post reported Saturday. The Obama administration apparently fears backlash will come from either decision.

Pajamas Media | Friday, December 12, 2008 The funeral for Shirwa Ahmed last week in Burnsville, Minnesota, punctuated a growing national security threat metastasizing inside the U.S. — one Homeland Security and law enforcement authorities have quickly taken note of. Ahmed, who killed himself in a suicide bombing attack in Somalia in October, is just one of up to 40 men from the Twin Cities area who have disappeared and are feared to have returned to their homeland for training with the al-Shabaab terrorist group to wage jihad. The FBI is investigating similar disappearances in other major Somali communities in...

Imam Khalid Latif, a chaplain for New York University and the New York Police Department, recently appeared on CNN. He suggested that the New York public schools should close for at least two important Muslim holidays each year. I could not agree more. Latif suggests that American Muslims are trying to develop their own contemporary identity as the religion of peace and tolerance. In his view, closing schools for major Muslim holidays would help that process since an Americanized modern and moderate Islam would benefit all Americans. However, I would alter Latif's suggestion slightly. We should treat the various Muslim...
  • Last two "Toronto 18" jihadists found guilty

TORONTO -- SNIPPET: "The so-called Toronto 18 eventually split into two groups after the leaders had a falling out. One thing the groups still had in common was a misdirected paranoia. They worried they were being watched by the authorities, but little did they know two of their trusted confidants were police agents. At one meeting one of the plotters instructed a man who was actually an RCMP agent to take the battery out of his cellphone so their conversation couldn't be intercepted. Another plotter gave an agent a test to see if he was a spy. He passed." SNIPPET:...

In fairness to The One, I don’t understand why America’s prosecutor-in-chief can’t express confidence in convicting a guy whom his own DOJ is trying. When Nixon called Manson guilty 40 years ago, he was meddling in a state trial without having seen the evidence. Not so here, but oh well. This is indeed a gift to the defense, although aside from giving the court an extra procedural headache to dispose of, it won’t matter ultimately. No judge is going to free the mastermind of 9/11 on a technicality and no president is going to let the mastermind of 9/11 walk...

BAGHDAD — Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) yesterday captured two warranted al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) terrorist group members responsible for multiple vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attacks throughout Baghdad and Kirkuk. In Mansour, southwest Baghdad, the ISF, with U.S. advisors, arrested an AQI VBIED facilitator named Muhammad Walid Khalid al-Juwali, also known as Abu Anas. Abu Anas was planning future VBIED attacks in Baghdad, threatening Government of Iraq institutions and security personnel. Further, Abu Anas is suspected of having associates linked to the planning and execution of the Aug. 19 attacks against the Iraqi Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs. In...

The PPSC is seeking leave to appeal to the Ontario Court of Appeal regarding the sentence of seven years in addition to time served, which was imposed on September 3, 2009. The first photographs of the self-proclaimed 9/11 mastermind at Guantanamo Bay have cropped up on the Internet, and experts say the images of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed are being used by terrorist groups to inspire attacks against the United States. The photographs, taken in July by the Red Cross at the Guantanamo detention centre in Cuba, show Mohammed in a white robe, a red-patterned headdress and a long salt-and-pepper beard. They are the first known images of Mohammed since shot taken upon his capture in Pakistan in March 2003 showing him in a white T-shirt, with disheveled hair and a moustache....

A young Mississauga man has pleaded guilty to intending to cause an explosion, the first time a member of the so-called Toronto 18 group has admitted the existence of a bomb plot. At a trial last year of a co-accused, prosecutors alleged some of the group's members were planning to bomb sites such as the Toronto Stock Exchange, RCMP headquarters in Ottawa, the Pickering nuclear power station and the Toronto offices of Canada's spy agency, located next to the CN Tower. In an unexpected move, Saad Khalid, 22, entered his plea on Monday but Justice Bruce Durno banned publication of...

In 1973, a young terrorist named Khalid Duhham Al-Jawary entered the United States and quickly began plotting an audacious attack in New York City. He built three powerful bombs - bombs powerful enough to kill, maim and destroy - and put them in rental cars scattered around town, near Israeli targets. The plot failed. The explosive devices did not detonate, and Al-Jawary fled the country, escaping prosecution for nearly two decades - until he was convicted of terrorism charges in Brooklyn and sentenced to 30 years in federal penitentiary. But his time is up. In less than a month, the...

It has become talking head fodder to speculate on what should happen to the Gitmo terrs. I've got an idea. Since the dims don't want to deal with these retromingent subhumans as they are, and would rather treat them as common criminals, it would be fitting to re-introduce them into society through the dims own portal. Throw up a 20ft razor wire fence around Washington D.C., dump them all into the mix, and forbid any contact with the outside world for 2 generations. It would be interesting to see if Barney or Chris survive.
