Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh questioned in 2003 if Roe v. Wade was "settled" law during his time in the White House counsel, according to emails given to the New York Times. Kavanaugh, in an email obtained by the newspaper, proposed deleting a line out of the draft of an opinion piece that said “it is widely accepted by legal scholars across the board that Roe v. Wade and its progeny are the settled law of the land." Kavanaugh, according to the email, questioned if legal scholars did agree that Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that established the...

I’m putting this on your radar because (a) this clip passed the anonymous NYT op-ed overnight as top draw on Resistance PornHub and (b) Harris will be interrogating him again today and will be under immense pressure to produce evidence that Kavanaugh lied to her here. And not just from righties, either. Her, ahem, 2020 competition is watching closely: They must have hard evidence of this supposed communication by Kavanaugh. I’m sure they do bc otherwise Harris would not have done what she did in light of the cardinal rule: Don’t over promise to the jury and then not...

Senate Democrats closed down the chamber floor Wednesday to protest the confirmation hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The hearings were able to continue, but only after the GOP agreed to quit floor business for the rest of the day. Under Senate rules, committees need consent from both sides of the aisle to meet into the afternoon when the floor is also in session. Consent is almost always granted...

Senate Republicans laid out a fast schedule Tuesday for action on Judge Brett Kavanaugh, setting up a Sept. 20 vote in committee which would be followed by action on the full Senate floor the final week of the month. Barring hiccups, that schedule would put Judge Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court before its Oct. 1 start of the new session.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah responded Tuesday to a tweet from the father of a Parkland shooting victim, Fred Guttenberg, who said that Judge Kavanaugh “turned his back†to him and likely “didn’t want to discuss gun violence.†Guttenberg's attempt to speak with Kavanaugh was also captured in an Associated Press photograph.Shah explained that security intervened before President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee was able to shake Guttenberg’s hand, showing a full video of the incident. Andrew Pollack, the outspoken father of one of the students killed in the Parkland mass school shooting, slammed the fellow Parkland father who approached Judge Brett Kavanaugh during a break in Tuesday’s heated Supreme Court confirmation hearing. “Stop weaponizing Parkland to advance a dangerous political agenda!” Mr. Pollack tweeted Tuesday afternoon. Andrew Pollack ✔ @AndrewPollackFL Judge Kavanaugh was not responsible for the Parkland school shooting that killed my daughter. @RobertwRuncie , FBI, and Sheriff Israel are. Judge Kavanaugh is a decent man and should be confirmed. Stop weaponizing Parkland to advance a dangerous political agenda! 12:26 PM - Sep...

Two short videos at link. Twenty-two people were arrested Tuesday morning after they protested Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing, U.S. Capitol Police said. Protesters could be heard urging senators on the Senate Judiciary Committee to vote against Kavanaugh's confirmation and to adjourn Tuesday’s hearing. “Senators, we demand you vote no,” one protester yelled. Another urged senators to "be a hero and cancel this year." "This should be an impeachment proceeding and not a confirmation hearing," another said. The women’s rights group UltraViolet confirmed that its executive director and co-founder, Shaunna Thomas, was among those arrested on Tuesday. The...

Over the coming days, foes of Brett Kavanaugh will attempt to portray him as hostile to civil rights. By now, these types of attacks have evolved into background noise, like the chirping of birds before sunrise. Whenever a conservative is nominated for anything, the chirping begins -- that thus and such nominee is hostile to civil rights, voting rights, minorities, and on and on. The background noise has become so familiar, so tiresome, so worn out that you wonder why anyone bothers with it anymore. And there you’d be mistaken. Chicken Little always sells papers. Or at least it...

Hours before the start of hearings on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court, the lawyer for former president George W. Bush turned over 42,000 pages of documents from the nominee’s service in the Bush White House, angering Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, who issued what is certain to be a futile call to delay the proceedings. “Not a single senator will be able to review these records before tomorrow,” Schumer (D-N.Y.) tweeted Monday evening. Taylor Foy, a spokesman for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), responded that “our review team will be able to complete its...

As Democratic senators fought to delay the hearing of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, and as spectators jarringly heckled the process Tuesday, his two young daughters were rushed from the hearing room, according to sources. The two, Margaret and Liza, were taken out by their mother, Ashley, as the hearing got “hot,” said one insider. “It was very unpleasant for young children,” said the insider.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing quickly devolved into a farce Tuesday morning with screeching protesters and Democrats demanding the committee be shut down immediately. The rough beginning underscored the stakes this week for the Judiciary Committee, which was trying to begin four days of hearings on Judge Kavanaugh’s record — but ran into trouble as soon as the gavel was rapped to open proceedings. “We cannot possibly move forward,” demanded Sen. Kamala Harris, California Democrat. “I move to adjourn!” added Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Democrat. Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley shot him down, saying they weren’t even in executive session...
