A newly released book claims that allies of former President Trump tried to push a top Defense Department official into overturning the 2020 election. According to the book "Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show,” which was published Tuesday, former national security advisor Michael Flynn and attorney Sidney Powell both made calls to Ezra Cohen, who was then acting as Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, while Cohen was traveling in the Middle East, ABC News reported. ABC News anchor Jon Karl pressed top White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre on Sunday over whether it was “Orwellian” to refer to a Democrat-backed spending bill as the “Inflation Reduction Act.” Karl noted recent analysis from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. Despite its legislation’s branding, the CBO found recently passed bill would have a “negligible” impact on inflation this year and next. “Isn’t it almost Orwellian?” Karl said. “How can you call it the Inflation Reduction Act when the nonpartisan experts say it’s not going to bring it down?”

President Trump scolded ABC News star reporter Jonathan Karl for asking a “stupid question” about whether or not he would be open to pardoning Michael Cohen during Tuesday’s photo spray with French President Emmanuel Macron. The FBI raided the office and hotel room of Cohen, who is Trump’s personal attorney, earlier this month. With less than a week until primary election day, the three Republicans in the First Congressional District race are in a dead heat, a new poll shows. The Remington Research Group poll of 420 likely Republican voters has Andy Tobin with 30 percent of the votes, Adam Kwasman with 29 percent, and Gary Kiehne with 21 percent. The problem with the pledge recently crafted by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which asks lawmakers to vow not to support immigration reform that would include amnesty, is that it's not an issue that all Republicans can get behind, says Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.
