We all have our memories and thoughts of that not so long ago day, 9/11. Today is another anniversary, and yes, the 13th isn't somehow as memorable as the 10th, or the 15th. On 9/11/2001, Free Republic lost two wonderful people, Barbara Olson and John Moran. While the events of that date fade into history, it is important that we never forget the people involved. Free Republic is many things, but above all it is a community of those who cherish and hold dear a set of core beliefs, values, and principles. And it is thus right and proper that...

Firefighter With Law Degree John Moran was a Fire Department battalion chief and his cousin Joseph Crowley was a congressman. But when they united their voices that last Saturday afternoon, at the block party in the Rockaways -- well, "The Star of the County Down" never sounded sweeter. At 42, Chief Moran was a kayaking, tin- whistle-playing firefighter with a law degree. But he never put himself before others.

FReepers lost some they knew, but never personally met. We surely miss Battalion Commander John Moran and Barbara Olson. I wrote a parody for Barbara that she saw and commented here on FR that she had posted it on her refrigerator.

By MICHELE McPHEE and RICHARD WEIR Daily News Staff Writers fter losing her husband in the World Trade Center and nearly losing her home when Flight 587 crashed in the Rockaways, Kimberly Moran was headed for a Christmas vacation yesterday when tragedy almost struck again. Four-year-old Dylan Moran with the three firemen who saved his life Her 4-year-old son Dylan began choking on jawbreaker candy and quickly turned blue. At the CONCERT FOR NEW YORK, shortly after 911, fireman Mike Moran took the stage for an announcement. He lost his older brother, Batallion Commander and FReeper John Moran -- BCM. For the whole world to see and hear, he told Osama bin Laden to "kiss my royal Irish ass." This song was the inspiration for the song that has been played around the world. Chris Storc and I would, of course, like you to purchase THE BALLAD OF MIKE MORAN, but for Christmas there is a free download for you. For new FReepers who don't know the story, we lost a beloved FReeper on 9-11 --- BCM, Batallion Commander John Moran. His brother Mike became a FReeper. Mike told Osama bin Laden before a worldwide television audience that he could "kiss my royal Irish *ss." I wrote the original version and Chris Storc saw it on FR. He contacted me, we did a re-write, and he got it produced. It has been played around...

John Moran was my son-inlaw. John truly was a Gentle Giant. He is terribly missed by us all! I was completely overwhelmed when I first discoverd this website and read all the postings on John's tribute.John and I shared conservative views (The Constition)which I thought was very unusual for a New Yorker. I'm an Idaho Redneck. I can't express what it meant to me when I read all the postings on John's tribute. It really choked me up! Thanks for all the expressions of condolences and encouragement. God Bless You All!BCM-FILI simply added FIL(father in-law)to his name.

The bone-chilling wail of bagpipe playing "Amazing Grace" echoed through a Queens church yesterday as yet another fallen firefighter from the World Trade Center tragedy was memorialized in death. It was yet another day — of many more to come — for Masses and memorial services for both heroic rescue workers and innocent civilians lost in the flames and collapsing towers. At the memorial Mass for 49th Battalion Chief John Moran, his younger brother, Firefighter Michael Moran of Ladder 3, recalled how he spoke to his brother by cell phone after the second plane crashed into the Trade Center. "I ...

In this month's issue of American Fire Journal, I noticed an this item: An Orange County, CA firefighter's wife has created a limited-edition bronze memorial sculpture to be given to each family of a firefighter who perished during the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The Orange County Fire Family Auxiliary has taken up the cause, deeming it the "Tribute Project". Each of the 343 sculptures is personalized with the name of the fallen firefigher and the date on a bronze plaque attached ot the marble base. Letters accompanying the sculptures identify the names of sponsors, who are presently...
