Apple is pouring $390 million into an American company that helps power AirPods and FaceID -- an investment that will create 500 jobs in Texas. The money will come from a $1 billion fund that Apple established earlier this year to boost U.S. manufacturing jobs. Apple says the cash will help Finisar, a chip maker, restart a 700,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Sherman, Texas, by the second half of next year. The new plant will create 500 "high-skill" jobs. Finisar produces "vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers" (VCSELs), which power some Apple's newest features, including Face ID, Animoji, Portrait mode selfies and AirPods. The...

With unemployment low and demand for new homes high, a company like Home Depot could be spending most of its surplus billions on raises for workers or the rollout of new stores. Instead, it is using $15 billion to buy back shares of its own stock, a move that will reward shareholders including chief executive Craig Menear. Home Depot’s statement was a reminder that corporate America may have other plans for that cash. Several companies already have indicated that they will use excess funds to pay off debt, increase dividend payments or repurchase their own shares rather than create new...

RUSH: Folks, do not doubt me. They think they have won the House in 2018. They hate Trump and so they think everybody else does. The reasons they hate Trump, they think, are the reasons everybody else hates Trump. They hate Republicans and they think they have succeeded with their buddies in the media in making everybody else hate Republicans. They think the Virginia gubernatorial election is the sign that the country has admitted its mistake and is ready now to get back to normal and elect Democrats to run Washington, D.C. So they have made this assumption. They want...

A huge Chicago bakery is now hiring Americans at higher wages, following a federal immigration enforcement action which forced the firing of 800 illegal immigrants. The forced departure of the illegal-immigrant workers at the Chicago-based Cloverhill bakery was a financial shock to the Swiss company which bought the bakery from a U.S. investment group in 2014. The illegals comprised one-third of the bakery’s employees, so U.S. sales fell by seven percent when the enforcement forced the company to rebuild its workforce by hiring Americans, the CEO told Wall Street analysts, according to Bloomberg: “It’s proceeding very, very slowly because it’s...

When the robots came to online retailer Boxed, dread came, too: The familiar fear that the machines would take over, leaving a trail of unemployed humans in their wake.
