PHOENIX -Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has signed an executive order directing state agencies to deny driver's licenses and other public benefits to young illegal immigrants who obtain work authorizations under a new Obama administration program. Brewer's order issued Wednesday says she's reaffirming the intent of current Arizona law denying taxpayer-funded public benefits and state identification to illegal immigrants. Young illegal immigrants could start applying Wednesday with the federal government for work permits under the Obama administration's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

To protect mothers as well as their preborn children, Arizona lawmakers passed H.B. 1036—a bill banning elective abortions after 20 weeks. Although the legislation was aptly titled “The Mother’s Health and Safety Act,” the ACLU and the Center for Reproductive Rights sued to block its implementation. But a federal judge just ruled for mothers, and as a result, the law will take effect in Arizona. Arizona now joins Alabama, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma, all of which already have bans on abortion after 20 weeks in place. And these complement 20 other states that have bans on abortion...

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer angrily denounced the Obama administration’s decision Monday to strip the state’s police agencies of special immigration arrest powers, saying it was like telling the state to “drop dead” in the aftermath of the Supreme Court decision upholding a key provision of Arizona’s immigration law. “I was shocked. I was outraged. I thought, you know, this is politics at its best,” Brewer told Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren in an interview Monday night. “It’s just unconscionable. What they said to Arizona is: ‘Drop dead, Arizona, drop dead, and go away. We’re going to ignore you,’” the Republican...

Arizona Senator Jon Kyl stated his belief that “impeachment is always a possibility” regarding President Barack Obama’s recent immigration policy shift, during an appearance Tuesday on the Bill Bennett radio show. “If the president insists on continuing to ignore parts of the law that he doesn’t like, and simply not enforce that law, the primary remedy for that is political,” said Mr. Kyl. “And you have it two ways: one is oversight through the Congress to demonstrate what they’re doing wrong and there are some potential criminal charges there for dereliction of duty. Although, I haven’t looked that up yet....
  • Jan Brewer: Immigration announcement was a “pre-emptive strike” against SCOTUS SB 1070 decision

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer added another layer of analysis to President Obama's seriously not political announcement on Friday that he intends to loosen deportation standards and allow young "non-criminal" illegal aliens to stay in this country legally by issuing work permits. The Supreme Court's decision on S.B. 1070, Arizona's attempt to actually enforce border security and deter illegal immigration in the face of federal laxity, is due this week or the next, and a lot of analysts have speculated that Arizona has a good shot at winning the case. Team Obama needed to get out in front of the bad...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHERIFF JOE! Arpaio is 80 today, and if it's true that "80 is the new 60" then Joe is far outperforming most 60 year olds as well. Sheriff Joe's department captures an astounding 25% of ALL illegal aliens apprehended in the U.S. every year - 80% of whom are caught heading to states OTHER than AZ. So not only is Joe keeping alien criminals off AZ streets, but also off of streets near YOU. Joe is the biggest symbol we've got in the war against illegal immigration, and now against a corrupt Attorney General and administration trying to...
  • Poll: Most Americans think Arizona immigration law is "about right"

As the Supreme Court weighs a decision on Arizona's controversial immigration law this summer, a new CBS News/New York Times poll shows that more than half of Americans see the law as "about right." The legislation, which was signed into law in April 2010, is considered among the most stringent immigration laws in the nation. It requires Arizona law enforcement members to check the citizenship status of anyone they believe appears to be an undocumented immigrant -- and has incited much controversy about whether or not it effectively legalizes racial profiling in a state with a heavy Latino population. According...

Which direction will Mitt Romney go in selecting his running mate? The Hill suggests that Romney will look for a “mini-me,” someone much like himself, as his track record as an executive in the private sector indicates: Mitt Romney is on the hunt for a vice presidential candidate, and if his years running Bain Capital are any indication, he might be looking for a version of himself. In his roughly 25 years at Bain, Romney tended to hire mini-Mitts — smart, ambitious, clean-cut and a little awkward, according to those who dealt closely with the men.Romney built the private equity firm,...

Supreme Court justices took a dim view of the Obama administration’s claim that it can stop Arizona from enforcing immigration laws, telling government lawyers during oral argument Wednesday that the state appears to want to push federal officials, not conflict with them. The court was hearing arguments on Arizona’s immigration crackdown law, which requires police to check the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country illegally, and would also write new state penalties for illegal immigrants who try to apply for jobs. The Obama administration has sued, arguing that those provisions conflict with the federal government’s role in setting...

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a pro-life bill into law today to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. House members passed the bill by a 37-22 vote and abortions after that time period would not be allowed except in very rare cases of medical emergency. The bill also requires abortion facilities to allow women to have an ultrasound of their unborn baby at least 24 hours prior to having the abortion. In many cases women change their minds about a planned abortion after seeing the images of their developing child. Americans United for Life president Charmaine Yoest commended Brewer...

(Reuters) - Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, who had a finger-pointing confrontation with President Barack Obama last month, on Sunday endorsed Mitt Romney's bid to become the Republican nominee to challenge Obama in the November 6 U.S. election. "He has that pro-business background and he has that political history that I think ... would serve America the best," Brewer said of Romney, who squares off with rival Rick Santorum in Republican presidential primaries on Tuesday in Arizona and Michigan. Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," the Republican Brewer announced her endorsement of Romney, saying: "I think he is the man who...

Sam Fulwood III explains why Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer's disrespectful gesture last week will motivate black voters to support the president in the November election. With a waggle of her right index finger last Wednesday, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer erased the question of whether black voters will be enthusiastic about going to the polls in support of President Barack Obama. Now, you can count on it. Gov. Brewer almost guaranteed that large numbers of black voters will turn out on Election Day because they will march to the polls, still angry about Brewer's one-finger salute of the commander-in-chief. Nothing motivates...

Last week, Sarah Palin stepped over the edge of civility. Fox Business Network host Eric Bolling played a clip of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on “Meet the Press” in which Christie said Newt Gingrich “has been an embarrassment” to the Republican Party. “Poor Chris,” Palin responded. “This was a rookie mistake. He played right into the media's hand.” Palin added that Christie must have been shaken up by Romney's second-place showing in South Carolina. “You kind of get your panties in a wad, and you may say things that you regret later. And I think that that is what...

The implication is clear… Governor Bobby Jindal told “Fox & Friends”: “It brought back memories… He grabs me by the arm, takes me aside. Here’s the strange thing: I thought he’d be angry about the oil spill, the lack of resources; I thought he’d get down there and say, ‘Look governor, we’re going to do everything we can to work together.’ Instead, he was upset he was going to look bad; he was worried about some routine letter we had already sent to his administration, nothing important.”

The now-famous picture of Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer shaking her finger at President Obama is both appropriate and deserved. In America, we don't have rulers entitled to the deference and obsequiousness other countries show to their kings; our elected officials are ordinary citizens whom we are free to criticize. Obama apparently took offense at the way Gov. Brewer described her meeting with the president in the Oval Office. She said he had been "condescending," "patronizing" and just wanted to lecture her, instead of showing any willingness to hear Arizona's concerns about border problems. He also didn't answer the governor's five...

Reaction to the Jan Brewer encounter is still bubbling, with some black commentators now suggesting the image of the Arizona governor wagging her finger at the President of the United States has touched a nerve in the African American community. On MSNBC Thursday, Al Sharpton posited that Brewer's treatment of President Obama was another example of disrespect in a list of many for the nation's first black president. His guest, Sirius XM host Joe Madison, said such incidents show that there are people "who cannot stand the fact that this is an African-American who is now one of the most...
