PORTLAND, Ore. -- Government offices around the state on Monday received suspicious mail, some of which contained an unknown substance, according to Oregon State Police. Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer was rushed to the emergency room at Blue Mountain Hospital on Monday evening. The East Oregonian reported that Palmer opened an envelope addressed to him at the sheriff's office in Canyon City. The envelope contained a white substance and Palmer quickly developed a rash on his arms.

Father Michael Pfleger was heckled on Thursday by pro-gun advocates while he gave a message at the St. George Catholic Church in Tinley Park, Illinois. On Wednesday, Corrections Commissioner Marshall Fisher approved immediate suspension without pay of a correctional officer charged in a kidnapping, armed robbery and homicide that occurred in Jackson on Saturday morning. Fisher learned after Andre Kennedy's arrest that Kennedy is one of 520 officers working at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County. Kennedy, 22, was hired in January 2014. He is charged with capital murder, robbery and kidnapping in a case involving an Eastover homeowner. His partner in crime was shot and killed in what police are calling justifiable homicide.
