The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Thursday urged the people of Baltimore to continue their peaceful protest and expressed his faith in the leadership of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. Attorney General Eric Holder used secretive email accounts under aliases during his tenure at the Justice Department, raising fresh questions about the Obama administration’s compliance with federal records laws as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reels from her own email scandal. Police officers in Jackson, Mississippi are now required to take a Spanish-language class four times a year, according to Jackson Police Department Police Chief Lee Vance. “The purpose of this program is for our officers to learn basic commands,” said Vance. “We’re not looking to make anybody fluent.” Vance also said the Spanish class is a part of a pre-scheduled Jackson Police Department’s in-service training program which included topics like constitutional law and reviewing pursuit policies. Tech companies are notoriously dominated by white men, as we've learned from their various diversity reports in the past year. Many firms have pledged to do better, citing the way inclusion fosters creativity and innovation. "This Monday only a handful of technology companies will close their doors and honor the King Holiday," Jackson said in an open letter to the tech industry. "It does not make sense to tout diversity and inclusion, to promote change and innovation and not recognize the King Holiday."

MISSISSIPPI - Two men are in custody and a third is wanted in the death of Carolyn Temple, a Jackson woman who was shot last week and died Monday night. Antreal Jones and Jerome Moore, both 17, were arrested after a standoff with police at McDowell Road and Woodside Drive. They were initially suspected in at least one carjacking, but police suspected they were involved in the January 7 incident on Euclid Street when Temple was robbed and shot. She died of her injuries Monday night.

Over the last year, Apple, Google and other big technology companies have faced mounting criticism by civil rights leaders about the lack of diversity in their work forces, which are populated mostly by white and Asian men. After reading about the gruesome murders of two New York City police officers, I was reminded of my early years as a cop. Tuesday on CNN, host Don Lemon took Rev. Jesse Jackson to task for claiming the riots last night in Ferguson were caused by "unending consistent pain and neglect" of urban plight and joblessness. At one point Lemon interrupted Jackson saying, "Reverend, with all due respect, if people need jobs in the community, why would you burn down a store or a place where you could possibly get work?"
