A reply: the unforgivable sin of Traditionalism Mass of Reparation, celebrated in response to clerical abuse revelations in 2018.Cross-posted on LMS Chairman.Austen Ivereigh writes that he has been troubled by a criticism of the restrictions on the Traditional Mass brought in last July by Pope Francis' Traditionis Custodes. This is the point, made even by people with no particular interest in the ancient Mass, that it was an example of collective punishment: the innocent were being deprived of the Mass alongside those, whoever they are, who are truly guilty, of whatever it is they are supposed to be guilty...

Pope Francis’ biographer: Pope Benedict’s circle opposes Francis, must be controlled August 13, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Austen Ivereigh, the British journalist and biographer of Pope Francis, has stated that the circle surrounding Pope emeritus Benedict — which he said includes the Vatican's former doctrine head Cardinal Müller — must be brought under "control" since it is a source of "scandal and of division." Ivereigh made these comments in an August 10 interview to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, in which he speaks about his upcoming book on Pope Francis, titled The Wounded Shepherd. Speaking about those who he holds as resisting Pope Francis,...

DALLAS, Texas - Both sporting hunter green blazers and blue oxford shirts, Ross Douthat and Austen Ivereigh’s accidental clothing match marked a rare convergence during an event otherwise marked by sometimes pointed disagreement over the Francis papacy, as two of the most prominent commentators on 21st century Catholicism shared a stage for the first time Wednesday evening. “The Papacy in the 21st Century: Where Are We, and Where Are We Going?” was organized by the University of Dallas as a part of their annual McDermott Lecture Series, and co-sponsored by DeSales Media of the Diocese of Brooklyn, in an effort to welcome civil,...

I was initially perplexed by the recent dust-up over converts in the Catholic commentariat. It seemed an entirely Anglo-American battle, with no parallel in Italy. Yet upon examination, I have found that the opposite is true. It began when Michael Sean Winters, a journalist at the liberal National Catholic Reporter, responded to a televised debate between Austen Ivereigh of Crux and Matthew Schmitz of First Things, with a remark directed at the latter: “I am so tired of converts telling us that the pope is not Catholic.” Schmitz had said nothing to that effect. But Ivereigh quickly echoed Winters’s sentiment,...
  • Austen Ivereigh, like a papalatrous gnostic, calls converts who disagree with him “neurotic”

A couple weeks ago (HERE) the Wile E. Coyote of the catholic Left, Michael Sean Winters of the Fishwrap sniggered with fellow lib Massimo “Beans” Faggioli about converts.  To quote Winters: I am so tired of converts telling us that the pope is not Catholic. Typical. Converts don’t have the right to say anything because they’re converts. Now Austen Ivereigh has a piece at CRUX (why the KCs pay for this rubbish is beyond me) against converts who disagree with him.  He tries to be soooo nuanced, soooo sophisticated in his condescension.FAIL.
