ST. LOUIS – Whitey Herzog, the St. Louis Cardinals’ Hall-of-Fame manager of the decorated 1980s era, has died at the age of 92, per several reports. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Herzog has passed away, citing information from an official with the Cardinals. Several other media outlets, including The Athletic, have also confirmed. Whitey Herzog managed the Cardinals for 11 seasons from 1980 to 1990, winning a World Series title in 1982 and National League pennants in 1985 and 1987. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.

An ice hockey star who is believed to have taken a blade to his throat in a horrific injury during a game has died aged 29, his family have said. Adam Johnson's injury was so horrific it forced the game to be abandoned and left traumatised fans in tears. A woman in New York died on Wednesday after her family's dog attacked her. When the woman's husband arrived at the couple's home on Long Island at about 1 p.m., he discovered that his wife was dead after being attacked by the family's pit bull, according to FOX 5. The pit bull was violent and went after police officers when they arrived, and they ended up killing the dog. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder described the scene as "horrific."
