"This is a great day in our household. This is not a political statement. This is a statement of unity," Brooks said. He wouldn't divulge which songs he was considering playing but added that he won't be playing "We Shall Be Free" as he played it during President Obama's 2008 inauguration. Brooks was also asked to perform during President Trump's 2016 inauguration, but mentioned that he couldn't do it as he had a tour date. Prior to Monday's announcement, Brooks had three dates on his touring calendar, beginning with a Feb. 27 show in Las Vegas, where he's scheduled to...
  • New Dell Windows 10 PC. Want *clean* install.

I am about to receive a Dell PC with Windows 10 Pro installed. It will have both an SSD drive (first one for me) and a SATA drive. With the past Dell PC purchases, I would take the supplied Windows OS disk and reinstall from scratch. Too much junk gets installed by Dell, and it seems trying to delete programs is more cumbersome than just performing a fresh install. I also like learning the clean install process before I actually put personal information on the new PC. Only issues are I have not used Windows 10 at all (initial need...

Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski was installed as the ninth spiritual shepherd of the Diocese of Springfield, Mass., during a solemn Aug. 12 Mass at the Cathedral of St. Michael. In his homily, he highlighted the responsibility of a shepherd to reach out and bring back lost sheep. Citing Pope Francis, Bishop Rozanski said all are called to welcome the alienated “by our compassion, joy and witness to the love of God at work in our world.” “As your bishop,” the 56-year-old Baltimore native said, “I am keenly aware of the need to reach out to those who have stopped practicing...

/7/2006 - MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. (AFPN) -- The Air Force is taking the lead in the nation’s first tri-service installation in the continental U.S. -- which includes McGuire, Fort Dix and Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station. What some media are calling a “Super Base,” the merger is expected to reduce overall manpower and facilities, and generate savings by combining services such as grass cutting, road repairs, trash collection, custodial duties and snow removal. “Since these installations share a common boundary with minimal distance (among) the major facilities, or are in close proximity, there is significant opportunity to reduce...
  • The “Reform of the Reform” Has Already Begun (Benedict XVI Alert!)

ROMA, April 28, 2005 -On Sunday, April 24, Benedict XVI inaugurated his “Petrine ministry as bishop of Rome”in the sunlight of a Saint Peter’s Square overflowing with crowds. But his first intention was different. He had wanted to celebrate his first solemn mass as pope, not in the square, but inside the basilica of Saint Peter. “Because there the architecture better directs the attention toward Christ, instead of the pope,” he told the masters of ceremonies on Wednesday, April 20, his first full day as the elected pope. Only the immense number of faithful who were coming induced him to...

VATICAN CITY, APRIL 24, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI's inaugural Mass was the first one to incorporate new symbolic gestures that finalize the process of updating the installation rites of a new Pope. The solemn Mass for the beginning of the pontificate replaced the coronation ceremony, which had been abolished by Paul VI in which a new pope received a tiara. The process of updating the rite began during the Second Vatican Council, but hadn't been finalized when John Paul I was elected in 1978, or when John Paul II became Pope about a month later. Substitute measures were used in...
  • Old, New Traditions to Mark Papal Ceremony

VATICAN CITY - The ceremony to install Pope Benedict XVI blends centuries-old tradition with some new elements, a mix of ritual that involves giving the pope a shawl emblazoned with red crosses to signify the blood of Christ and a golden ring to show his papal authority. The symbolism of Sunday's ceremony is evident from the start, when Benedict will join cardinals in the grottoes underneath St. Peter's Basilica to pay homage at the tomb of St. Peter — the first pope — who is believed to be buried there. "I leave from where the apostle arrived," Benedict will say,...

I need help with a Windows XP Professional installation. A relative of mine gave me an unused (e.g., unactivated) fully-legal copy of Windows XP Professional (Full Install version) that is still on Service Pack 1, and they also gave me the full Network Install WinXP Service Pack 2 install file (all 275 MB of it!). Given that Windows XP SP2 likely won't allow the installation of all security patches over a copy of Windows XP Professional that has not be activated, can anyone here tell me what are the most critical patch files I should install first so I can...

In a homily that ranged from proclaiming the Gospel to poking fun at the Milwaukee Brewers, Dolan repeatedly urged the more than 900 faithful in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist to "Be not afraid." The elaborate installation rituals were the centerpiece of a two-day celebration in which Dolan formally took charge of the 10-county archdiocese. Dolan, 52, succeeds former Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland as leader of the area's nearly 700,000 Catholics. The moment of succession occurred as Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, the papal nuncio, or pope's delegate to the United States, had a panel of nine priests read...

Archbishop-elect Timothy M. Dolan knocks on the front door at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on Tuesday night as he arrives for a vigil before his installation today as leader of the Milwaukee Archdiocese. The tradition at the door can be traced to the 1600s, when parishioners were not certain when a new bishop would arrive. At right is Father Jerry Herda, Dolan's personal secretary. With a smile and a wave, Archbishop-elect Timothy M. Dolan walked up the steps of Milwaukee's Catholic cathedral and pounded decisively on the main door Tuesday night.Seconds before, he quipped, "I hope...
