During a House vote on Wednesday, only nine lawmakers voted against reaffirming the slogan to be used in governmental buildings across the United States. Paul was unable to it to Capitol Hill to cast his own voice but says that he would have voted against it. "I would have voted 'no' not because I don't like the motto and don't think...

Absolutely outrageous. In God We Trust is a waste of time to this president. "In the house of Representatives...You've had legislation reaffirming that In God We Trust is our motto? That's not putting people back to work" Obama says at his jobs speech today in the D.C. area.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ordered a San Diego Teacher to take down a banner that says ' In God We Trust.' The teacher who has had the banners up in his classroom for two decades says the banner was free speech. Bradley Johnson is a math teacher in the Poway Unified School District. He says the banner celebrates the religious heritage of America. He says the banners were 'no more an assertion of a religious point of view than the Tibetan prayer flag, Dalai Lama poster and Malcolm X poster that other teachers had in their...

Why it matters that our democracy trust in GodFATHER ROBERT BARRONI was pleased to see that the United States Supreme Court recently dismissed a suit brought by Michael Newdow, a Sacramento man who wanted to remove the phrase “In God We Trust” from the nation’s coins and paper currency, as well as from the fronts of our public buildings. The tired argument that the gentleman brought forward was that this custom somehow violates the first amendment guarantee that the government shall make no law either establishing an official religion or prohibiting the free exercise of religion in the United...

The Supreme Court won't hear an atheist's latest challenge to the U.S. government's references to God. The court on Monday refused to hear an appeal from Michael Newdow, who says government references to God are unconstitutional and infringe on his religious beliefs.

Tuesday, when you see President Obama give his State of the Union address, you will see four things: the president entering the hall, the president ascending the rostrum to be greeted by the vice president and the speaker of the House, the president giving his speech and the reactions of members of the Congress and others in the hall. Here is the one thing you will not see and probably have never seen. You won't see what is behind the president and above the vice president and the speaker of the House. And because you won't see it, you won't...

Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine: Video Members of a bipartisan group of lawmakers called the Congressional Prayer Caucus want to make sure President Obama knows the country's national motto. Forty-one Republicans and one of the five Democrats from the caucus sent a letter to the president asking him to correct a mistake he made during a speech last month in Jakarta, Indonesia when he said -- quote -- "In the United States, our motto is E Pluribus Unum -- out of many, one." The lawmakers point out the official national motto -- approved by Congress in 1956...

A letter signed by 42 members of Congress criticizes President Barack Obama for telling students in Indonesia last month that America's national motto is "E Pluribus Unum." Obama commented to the students last month that the U.S. and Indonesia share a similar history. "It is a story written into our national mottos. In the United States, our motto is 'E Pluribus Unum' -- out of many, one." In a letter to the White House, members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus -- mostly Republican -- note that the national motto has been "In God We Trust" since 1956. The caucus chairman,...

Asheville, N.C. — God and country are the theme of battling billboards sprouting up across North Carolina. The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that billboards with the message "one nation, under God" are going up across the state. They're a response to billboards placed in six North Carolina cities by the North Carolina Secular Association. Those signs with the message "one nation indivisible" drop the words "under God," which were added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954. The group says it wanted to show that nonbelievers are patriotic. A coalition called We Still Pray has bought space on six electronic billboards...

The Almighty Wins one in U.S. Federal court…in San Francisco. Professional atheist Michael Newdow, founder of The First Atheist Church of True Science, lost his claim that the words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance are unconstitutional and infringe upon his religious beliefs. The San Francisco 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Newdow’s claims and ruled that “under God” was indeed constitutional.

Praise God! Today a federal court, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in San Francisco has ruled on the side of right by upholding the use of the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We Trust" on United States currency. Michael Newdow, an atheist from Sacramento California had filed the case on behalf of himself, and his daughter who was "forced" to say the Pledge of Allegiance in school, claiming the references to God were disrespectful to his religious beliefs and were a violation of the separation of church and state...

SAN FRANCISCO -- The words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance are an appeal to patriotism, not religion, and do not violate the separation of church and state, a federal appeals court ruled today - the same court that declared the pledge unconstitutional in 2002. In a separate ruling, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel in San Francisco upheld the placement of the national motto, "In God We Trust," on coins and currency. The language is patriotic and ceremonial, not religious, the court said. Both suits were filed by Michael Newdow, a Sacramento atheist who has filed...

By all accounts, Brad Johnson, a 30-year math teacher at Westview High School in Rancho Peñasquitos, is the salt of the classroom. If he feels his AP Calculus students are sagging, he’ll perform a cartwheel to pump them up. What a 57-year-old guy. About three years ago, Johnson was told to remove two 7-foot banners he had displayed for more than two decades (along with about 200 nature photographs.) Granted, he’ll never be confused with designer Tom Ford, but his students like his folksy style, Johnson told me.

"One Nation Under God." This simple phrase, added to the pledge of allegiance over 50 years ago has been the source of unbelievable debate and heated controversy. Likewise, the phrase 'In God We Trust' on our currency has been targeted and continues to be attacked as improper and politically incorrect. Lawsuits have been filed and legal minds employed to ascertain whether such statements violate the concept of 'separation of church and state'. As this debate continues, some so called experts have implied or concluded that our Founding Fathers and Patriots were not religious. These secular champions, in an effort to...

Sarah Palin haters will stoop to just about anything to malign the woman they most fear – including lying. That's what Huffington Puffington Post columnist Max Blumenthal did Sunday when he claimed the former vice presidential candidate cited an "urban legend" in a speech when she said the Treasury Department had moved the phrase "In God We Trust" from presidential coins. Blumenthal and his pseudo-news organization characterized Palin's statement as a "rumor" that "most likely originated with a 2006 story on the far-right website WorldNetDaily." Actually, it wasn't "a rumor." It was, what we call in the news business, a...
