Washington Mutual Inc, the largest U.S. savings and loan, on Tuesday said it will receive a $7 billion capital injection from private equity firm TPG Inc and other investors. The company also said it expects to report a first-quarter loss of $1.1 billion, or $1.40 per share. It expects to set aside $3.5 billion in the quarter for loan losses and said net charge-offs, or loans it doesn't expect to be paid back, will total $1.4 billion. Rep. Patrick Kennedy (news, bio, voting record) crashed his car near the Capitol early Thursday, and a police official said he appeared intoxicated. Kennedy said he had taken sleep medication and a prescription anti-nausea drug that can cause drowsiness. Kennedy, D-R.I., addressed the issue after a spate of news reports.
