All signs point to yes. During the past several months, the image has flickered into our homes with increasing regularity: Following the end of a campaign-trail speech, little Emma Claire Edwards, 6, and Jack Edwards, 4—both blond and cherubic—joyfully run up to the stage where their dad, Sen. John Edwards, 51, scoops them into his arms. Standing nearby beaming, always, is Elizabeth Edwards, 55. Do the math, and it's not hard to figure out that Edwards gave birth to Emma Claire at age 48 and Jack at 50. And yet if Edwards used her own eggs, this is all but...

It was once said, 'there's no need for a conspiracy if everyone is on the same page'. It's true, especially about diet. Recently, lots of folks are pretty up in arms over Atkins. I'm now one of them, in the sense, I've joined their side. Lots of insulin in the blood is not a good thing in my opinion. Why? My wife. She is, well was, very obsese. She was also diagnosed w/ PCOS 4 years ago. PCOS is where a woman fails to cycle, fails to get pregnant, and is typically very, very fat around the middle, not the...

For the first time, it's now known how many frozen human embryos created for infertility treatments are being stored in the United States -- 400,000, twice as high as previous estimates. Researchers with the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology found that most are designated for further fertility treatments, though it's doubtful that all 349,830 embryos with this designation will be used for that purpose. Many of the embryos will not survive the thawing process but, as the number of "leftovers" left in freezers continues to rise, there are calls to minimize embryo production, put limits on storage time, and to...

About 5 million -- or 13 percent -- of Russian married couples are infertile, and doctors report that diagnoses of infertility are on the rise. In nearly three out of four cases, infertility is attributed to the woman, typically because of complications from one or more abortions, according to Serov and other health experts. **** The Health Ministry reports that for every live birth there are 1.7 abortions, compared with more than three births for every abortion in the United States. **** A study of mid-1990s data by a group of health researchers showed Russia's abortion rate was the fourth-highest...

I have a question: Have any of you, during yours (or your wive's) pregnancies, ever experienced low HCG levels? My wife and I recently found out we are blessed with a second child, due in August. We got the initial bloodwork back from her doctor (last Friday), and he said her HCG levels were a bit on the low side (72). We went again Sunday and had the same bloodwork done, and her levels did go up, slightly (100). They want us to go back on Tuesday to see how the numbers have climbed...ideally they're supposed to double every few...

LifeSite Daily News Wednesday October 2, 2002 LOW BIRTH RATE PUTS CANADA ON ROAD TO PERDITION TORONTO, October 2, 2002 (LSN.ca) - A prominent economics reporter with the Globe and Mail is one of the few Canadian opinion-makers to have said anything at all about the failure of Canadians to have children, historically a key sign of a doomed culture. "Canadian couples are not having enough kids even to replace themselves -- and have not for more than three decades now." "So long as we Canadians don't replace ourselves, we put ourselves on a path that's almost impossible to alter,"...

JOHN SMIERCIAK / CHICAGO TRIBUNE Laura Paterniti plays with her newborn, Alexa. After trying for six years to have a baby on their own, she and her husband, Raymond, were given an embryo by anonymous donors.

CHICAGO — On Aug. 1 Laura and Raymond Paterniti ended their six-year struggle to have a child when Laura gave birth to a daughter who bore no genetic relation to either of her new parents. Alexa came to the family as an embryo donated by another Chicago-area couple with embryos to spare after a round of in-vitro fertilization. With her new baby, Laura Paterniti has rebounded from despair over infertility to amazement that the anonymous embryo donors let strangers bear and raise their genetic child.
