As Obama’s term as President is slowly nearing its end, more and more of who the man is, and what he truly stands for, is beginning to seep out. For instance, President Obama released his 4th of July weekly address for 2015 with one key ingredient missing: God. Unlike his weekly addresses during the previous two years, where the President concluded his speeches with “God Bless You All” (2014) and “So, God bless You All. And may God bless The United States of America” (2013), Obama left out any mention of God in his recent address. Instead, this year, he...

Okay My pet peeve of mine on this day is everybody I know on Facebook, including those that are Conservative (very few of them), say "Happy 4th of July." To me, in the simple sense, 'July 4th' is merely another day on the calender: the fourth day of the month of July. It is what happened on this day 239 years ago that I celebrate. Some very brave men drafted an article declaring their independence from the largest military power in the world in 1776. The Founders of this nation had the idea that a government should be comprised of...

'When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." -- Proverbs 29:2 Don't get me wrong. We'll be barbecuing tomorrow and greatly enjoying the fellowship of family and friends. We'll be lighting off a few celebratory firecrackers, as John Adams suggested we should do. We'll go to the local fireworks display and commemorate our national liberty and independence with our fellow citizens. But, on this particular Independence Day, something important is missing. I can't help but mourn, as traitors, cowards, wicked men, and oath-breakers run amok in American halls of power....

The George Foster Peabody award-winning series brings the people, events and ideas of the revolution to life through military reenactments and dramatic recreations performed by a distinguished cast. _________________________ EPISODE 1: "The Reluctant Revolutionaries" 1763-1774In 1763, the capitol city of America is London, George Washington is lobbying for a post in the British army, and no one thinks of Boston harbor when they hear talk of tea parties. In a dozen...

"The Fourth of July celebrates that monumental moment when a new nation was announced to the world, calling for immigrants. The new nation promised a new system of government based on a Constitution, and the land a resources to prosper in that new found freedom. The population of the Colonies was about 2.5 million in 1776. The call of freedom was heard worldwide and people arrived from all over." the full article is here

This weekend we celebrate the Fourth of July, high holiday of American civic religion and universal occasion for cookouts, stars-and-stripes bikinis, and raucous displays of unbridled patriotism. More than 200 years ago, however, there was no such unanimity on the subject of the American Revolution. Though our popular history tends to avoid such off-message details, about 15 percent of white American colonists during the Revolutionary War were loyalists, and perhaps more surprisingly, close to half were effectively neutral.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, and GOD BLESS AMERICAIT'S NOT JUST THE 4th OF JULY, IT IS OUR DAY OF INDEPENDENCEAs Americans, today we set aside the trivialities of everyday life to remember why we enjoy what few in the history of the world have ever experienced, a totally Free Country.. But for the courage of a few, who bravely, at the sacrifice of all they possessed, laid down a marker that the world had never seen, ALL OR NOTHING, FOR FREEDOM..Without their tenacity, and vision, we would be under the boot of some tyrant, struggling to survive at their whim.. Instead...

When reading the Declaration of Independence over the holiday weekend, it’s easy to skip over the names of the signers and focus instead on the sweeping language of the second paragraph. This overlooks the fact that the signers pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor in order to found a country upon self-evident truths rooted in the nature of man.

I'm not sure who came up with the name "free range children." The only thing I ever knew that was "free range" until recently was chicken, not children. Now it's the term used for children who are allowed to have a degree of independence by their parents. When I was a child, we were all "free range." Our parents allowed us more and more independence the older we got based on how well we handled the responsibility. I was "free range" by the time I was three years old – not exactly my parents' choice, though.

INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) - A high-speed police chase wound through Independence and Kansas City, and the suspect driver hit at least one innocent motorist before he ditched the car and hid underneath a mattress. Police were then able to arrest the man. Independence police began to pursue the vehicle about 3:30 p.m. Monday. The light-colored Cadillac was reported stolen in the northwest part of Independence. The driver weaved dangerously through traffic at high-speed on a crowded I-70. Independence police were joined by Kansas City officers. The man drove from Independence into Kansas City where he hit an innocent motorist driving...

Where are you, country? Why can’t I find you? Why have you gone away? Adapting Cindy Lou’s song about the loss of Christmas spirit in Whoville expresses the sadness for what as been lost in my country. When I was a young boy in the small town of Piedmont, Missouri, the local physician, Doc Jones, would come to your house if you were sick. People paid him in cash, or perhaps some other goods. No one imagined they had a “right” to have someone else pay Doc Jones. It was their solemn duty, part of leading a responsible and moral...

HONOLULU—China has suggested arming Hawaii’s independence activists in retaliation for U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and recently threatened to challenge American sovereignty by making legal claims to the Pacific islands as its territory. Chinese threats to back several groups of Hawaiian independence activists who want to restore the islands’ constitutional monarchy, ousted in a U.S.-backed coup over a century ago, has raised concerns that military facilities on the strategic central Pacific archipelago are threatened at a time when the Obama administration is engaged in a major shift toward Asia as part of its military and diplomatic rebalance. Michael Pillsbury, a...

Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) unequivocally declared Monday that Texas is a "crazy state" he never wants to live in, infuriating a Texas lawmaker. Tensions flared between Hastings and Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) during a House Rules Committee meeting to prepare a bill slated for a floor vote Tuesday to repeal ObamaCare. Hastings showed disdain for Texas during a discussion about states' implementation of the 2010 healthcare overhaul and decisions over whether or not to participate in the exchanges. "I don't know about in your state, which I think is a crazy state to begin with," Hastings told Burgess. Burgess immediately...

For the first time since Gallup has conducted polling, people say that the "biggest problem" in America is "the government." It topped all other categories, including terrorism. "2014 was the first year ever in Gallup records that dissatisfaction with government topped the list," the 80-year-old firm said. "Government includes dissatisfaction with President Obama." And angst over government has been climbing each year since 2009, when Obama took office, breaking a long period of relative satisfaction with government. Beyond Obama, Americans are rejecting what the Left is selling — the idea that government should determine our fate. No, they're saying that...

Historians, political scientists, and philosophers alike often look at revolutions and ask the question "Was it a simple coup d'etat, or a real popular revolution? And if a real popular revolution, just how 'popular' was it, really?" It's often not that easy to tell. We can easily look at the Russian Revolution, for example, and see how there was first a large popular revolution, one that was then taken over by a much smaller communist contingent that was nowhere near as popular, but was brutal enough to win over the nascent White Russian government. One can do the math easily,...

The European Union’s executive Commission said Monday that membership in the euro bloc is “irrevocable” but left it open to what extent Greece could renegotiate the terms after elections on Jan. 25. Greece’s left-wing Syriza party leads the polls ahead of the elections and is in favor of changing the conditions of the country’s international bailout deal. That would likely anger the rest of the eurozone, which has given Athens the bulk of the rescue loans. […] EU spokeswoman Annika Breidthardt said Monday that if the Greek elections call for a need to reconsider the conditions of Athens’ membership within...

WASHINGTON -- Can it happen here? It is happening in Europe where French polls show that the National Front's Marine Le Pen would win the election for president if elections were held tomorrow. Something like it has happened in Italy where an anarchist comedian, the happily named Beppe Grillo, garnered 25 percent of the vote last year. Most spectacularly, it almost happened in the United Kingdom last month. What am I talking about? An election in which the lowly voters overcome the professional pols and vote their minds. Now there is evidence that it can happen here. In the United...

MADRID — At first glance, Catalonia's face-off with Madrid over independence looks like it has much in common with the recent Scottish secessionist crisis, which panicked countries and markets alike. But the upcoming vote, which Spain’s highest court unanimously suspended after the Spanish government officially challenged it on Monday, shares little with Scotland's, other than the ultimate goal. The regional leader of Catalonia, Artur Mas, signed a decree Saturday setting Nov. 9 for the referendum. But, whenever the referendum might take place, the fundamental difference is that Catalonians are not being asked to decide whether to break away from Spain,...
