The American Dream is alive and well for most, but the younger generation and less educated do not share such optimism, according to a new poll conducted by NORC – University of Chicago. In a survey of 2,187 of U.S. residents – regardless of age, race, ethnicity, income, or education – a whopping 75% of respondents said they had achieved or are on their way to obtaining the American Dream, namely economic opportunity and freedom of choice.

With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine now approaching its fourth week, President Vladimir Putin’s forces have exerted brutal force and destruction on the eastern European nation, forcing people to flee and making millions homeless. Russia’s economy is now creaking under the immense weight of international sanctions and the costs of war, having largely failed to achieve major military victories in Ukraine. Close watchers of Moscow, and Putin, say there are increasing signs of desperation in Russia’s military campaign and siege tactics. “I don’t think Russia can win,” Kurt Volker, a former U.S. ambassador to NATO, told CNBC.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Americans increasingly think Democrats have a better plan for healthcare than Republicans, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted after the White House announced that more people than expected had signed up for the "Obamacare" health plan. Nearly one-third of respondents in the online survey released on Tuesday said they prefer Democrats' plan, policy or approach to healthcare, compared to just 18 percent for Republicans. This marks both an uptick in support for Democrats and a slide for Republicans since a similar poll in February. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius stepped down last week after...

SACRAMENTO When Maria Elena Hernandez left Honduras for California, she didn't speak English, didn't have work papers, and her fear of being caught by Immigration tied her stomach in knots. Eight months later, she was marching up the steps of the Capitol to ask some of the state's top elected officials for better working conditions. Energized by the recent marches for immigration reform and supported by growing participation in a network of civic organizations, immigrants are increasingly emerging as actors in America's civic and political life. "It makes me feel like this is my country, like I don't have to...

WASHINGTON - From Iraq to deficits, from immigration to port security, some of the most pointed criticism leveled at President Bush is coming from within his own party. Republicans these days are almost sounding like perennially divided Democrats. The rising GOP angst stems from Bush's deep slump in the polls and the growing unpopularity of the Iraq war. But it also reflects a political reawakening as Republicans follow their own political interests in this midterm election year and as would-be 2008 presidential contenders seek ways to set themselves apart — from each other and from Bush. "It's open season on...

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! BANGKOK, Thailand (Nov. 23) - Women in East Asia are contracting HIV at a faster rate than in the rest of the world, and there's a worrying new trend in Thailand: men who have visited prostitutes are increasingly passing on the infection to their wives, the United Nations says. In many parts of the world, but particularly in Asia, more women than men are getting the disease because it has spread beyond the brothels where most infections occurred 12 years ago, said the latest global HIV status report published Tuesday. Women have also seen higher rates of infection than men...

Migrant workers who once crossed the border each spring from Mexico and returned south for the holidays at home are more likely than ever to spend Christmas in the United States. It is a sea change in a once predictable migratory flow - and an unintended consequence of U.S. immigration policy that aims to keep people out by investing billions of dollars in beefier border security. The new reality is clear in Northern California's Napa Valley, where farmhands once packed for Mexico after harvesting prized wine grapes. The vines are now bare, but many workers are still kicking around for...
