Chicago Media Largely Ignore Lech Walesa Visit, Endorsement of Conservative Republican in Governor’s Race Wednesday, February 03, 2010 By Michael W. Chapman, Managing Editor CNSNews.com) – Lech Walesa, a Nobel Laureate and former leader of the Solidarity trade union in Poland, which helped topple 50 years of Soviet occupation there and end the Cold War, went to Chicago, Ill., last week to endorse a conservative Republican in the gubernatorial primary race but the local media largely ignored him. This near-blackout by the media occurred despite the fact that 1 million people of Polish nationality live in Chicago, making it the...

    Governor - GOP Primary Illinois - 11142 of 11215 Precincts Reporting - 99% Bill Brady, 20%, 155,210 Kirk Dillard, 20%, 154,701 Bill Brady up 509 votes. 73 precincts remain.
  • Giannoulias and Kirk both pretty weak

I think one of the most striking things about last night's Illinois primary results for Senate is how poorly both Alexi Giannoulias and Mark Kirk closed. In the December Chicago Tribune poll Giannoulias was at 31%, followed by Cheryle Jackson at 17%, and David Hoffman with 9%. There were 35% undecided. Giannoulias ended up with 39% to 34% for Hoffman and 20% for Jackson. That suggests that over the final seven weeks of the campaign Hoffman picked up more than 70% of those who had been undecided to 23% for Giannoulias and less than 10% for Jackson. Not too impressive...

The Tea Party folks keep getting mad at me for saying that in the end they might prove ineffective in races at levels higher than local because they aren't organized enough. They puff up their chests proudly proclaiming that they intend to resist being organized and they claim that being organized is precisely what they are fighting against. I understand the feeling, even sympathize quite a lot, but there is a problem with this obstinacy. It means they won't win on a statewide ballot very often. The Illinois primary just proved me correct, too. Let's take the race for Senate...

The final vote totals aren’t in yet, but folks you have to understand in Illinois it’s par for the course. By the way, where are some of those uncounted votes sitting? In a warehouse on the west side of Chicago, according to Cook County Clerk David Orr and, of course, absentee ballots haven’t been counted yet. Remember the City of Chicago’s motto is “vote early and vote often” and even the dead are invited to cast a ballot. However, most stunning is U.S Rep. Mark Kirk’s margin of victory in the Illinois GOP primary for the U.S. Senate. It would...

Newser) – Moderate Mark Kirk has won Illinois’ Republican Senate primary, blowing away two conservative opponents backed by tea-party contingents. The congressman has 56% of the vote with more than 82% of precincts reporting—giving him a 37% lead over Patrick Hughes. Analysts predicted that a clear Kirk victory would take much of the steam out of the tea-party movement. On the Democratic side, the Chicago Tribune reports, state treasurer Alexi Giannoulias looks close to clinching the nomination, setting up a fight with Kirk for the Senate seat vacated by President Obama.

As votes started rolling in Tuesday night in the high-profile U.S. Senate race, U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk of Highland Park and Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias of Chicago were taking an early lead. But with about a quarter of ballots being counted, it was too early to call the races in the packed primaries in this low turnout election

Pat Hughes is the only one with a shot to defeat left wing extremist Republican Mark Kirk. Adam has momentum with Lech Walesa and tea partiers in Illinois. Brady and Proft are choices 2 and 3. For Lt. Governor Tracy, White, or Plummer Comptroller Jim Dodge

Rush Limbaugh has thrown his support behind Adam Andrzejewski (pronounced "an-gee-EFF-skee"), a Republican candidate for governor of Illinois. (Audio here.) Tomorrow's GOP primary is crowded with challengers, and Andrzejewski has trailed former state party chairman Andy McKenna in the polls. But he has been riding a surge lately, starting with an endorsement from former Polish president and Solidarity founder Lech Walesa on Friday, and continuing with Rush's declaration that Andrzejewski might be "the Scott Brown of his contest." "I have not heard Rush’s remarks yet — I’ve spent the day campaigning in Polish neighborhoods all over Chicago — but people...

These endorsements may not matter to those of you who live outside of Illinois, but perhaps you have friends and loved ones who live in this state, who might be interested. RFFM.org was originally not going to endorse any candidates. However, RFFM.org will make some endorsements due to the influence of the Republican establishment, the Combine and millionaires whose goals may not be in the best interest of Illinois citizens and Republican voters. I was born in Chicago. I lived there for fifty plus years and now reside in central Illinois. I fully recognize how the power brokers north of...

Illinois has been a disastrous state for Republicans for over a decade. That could start changing tomorrow. A former Republican Governor, George Ryan, is in jail for selling driver's licenses in exchange for campaign contributions while he was Secretary of State, becoming the fourth recent Illinois governor to serve time and get to wear one of the Fighting Illini's team colors: orange. Rod Blagojevich may be the fifth. Blago's attempted sale of Barack Obama's former Senate seat led in the end to the appointment of Roland Burris, who is not running for reelection. In a state where Obama won by...

From the Gdansk Lenin Shipyards to the city of the Back of the Yards, Lech Walesa, former President of Poland, and preeminent community organizer, attended a fundraiser on Friday, January 29, to endorse Adam Andrzejewski (an gee eff skie) who is one of six Republicans seeking the nomination of his party for Governor of Illinois. Walesa , who led trade union strikes in Poland in the early 1980s, managed to bring about needed economic and political change for laborers without resorting to violence. He led the Solidarność or Solidarity, a broad anti-Soviet social movement. Its activities included workers taking to...

CHICAGO - Buoyed by their surprise Senate victory in Massachusetts, Republicans in President Barack Obama's home state of Illinois sense the Senate seat he left vacant is ripe for their picking come November elections. Obama's Democrats have long dominated Illinois politics. But Republicans view their man Scott Brown's capture in January of the late Edward Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts as a sign of voter dismay with Democrats in the White House and Congress. Public opinion polls ahead of Tuesday's party primaries in Illinois show five-term U.S. Representative Mark Kirk likely to win the Republican nomination easily. Favored to win the...

Illinois Gubernatorial Candidate and conservative Adam Andrzejewski rallied supporters in O’Fallon, Illinois this afternoon. It was a standing room only crowd. While campaigning in O’Fallon the Andrzejewski team announced that Adam had just received the endorsement of the largest Chicago Polish paper today. And…. It was announced that Adam had surged to within two points in an internal poll conducted by a conservative organization in Washington DC. Andrzejewski was 8 points down earlier in the week in the Illinois race. It may have been the endorsement by Lech Walesa that helped Andrzejewski surge in the latest polling. And this is despite...
