(CNN) - Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has quickly become one of Washington's most prolific social media users, but this weekend the New York freshman said Silicon Valley companies had too much power and that "the current monopoly trend is societally and economically unsustainable." Ocasio-Cortez's comments came in the aftermath of layoffs at a number of number of news organizations, including BuzzFeed and HuffPost. "The biggest threats to journalism right now are tech monopolies & concentration of ownership," she tweeted on Saturday, adding: "The fact of the matter is the current monopoly trend is societally & economically unsustainable. We can't simply...

Rep. Ilan Omar (D-MN) claimed the Trump administration was waging a “coup” against the Venezuelan government for recognizing opposition leader Juan Guaido, who temporarily assumed presidential powers in an effort to unseat Nicolas Maduro. “A US backed coup in Venezuela is not a solution to the dire issues they face,” she said on Twitter. “Trump’s efforts to install a far right opposition will only incite violence and further destabilize the region. We must support Mexico, Uruguay & the Vatican’s efforts to facilitate a peaceful dialogue.” Ilhan Omar ✔@IlhanMN A US backed coup in Venezuela is not a solution to the...

The photo, obtained by The Tallahassee Democrat, shows Secretary of State Mike Ertel with brown face paint, wearing red lipstick, earrings and a New Orleans Saints bandanna. Ertel also had fake breasts under a purple shirt that said "Katrina Victim," according to the Democrat.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders recently said she's never “seen people so happy to destroy a kid's life,” but Parkland student David Hogg begs to differ. The White House press secretary doubled down on her defense of the Covington Catholic students accused of mocking Native American activists on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity Tuesday night. “I think what happened with Buzzfeed is a great lesson for the media. Quit trying to be first and start trying to be right. We have seen time and time again where they run out here with outrageous,...

House Budget Committee chair Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) called Sunday for a ban on teenagers wearing “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hats, in response to a viral video of a confrontation between Catholic students and Native American counter-demonstrators at the March for Life on Friday in Washington, DC. Yarmuth holds one of the most powerful positions in the Democrat-run U.S. House of Representatives.

But the gesture — which seemed to entertain the Clemson team — didn’t sit well with Bush, who took to Twitter on the subject around midnight, saying Trump should’ve done more for the team. “Just when you think you’ve seen it all, @ClemsonFB you guys deserve better you are world champs and this is the honor you receive from our nations leader!?” he tweeted. “This is disrespectful on so many levels, just a huge slap in the face after that kind of performance! SMH!”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) responded to President Donald Trump’s Oval Office address Tuesday evening, claiming illegal immigrants “act more American” than proponents of strong border security. In an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Ocasio-Cortez accused President Trump of holding the paychecks of furloughed government workers “hostage” to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, a proposal the self-avowed Democrat-socialist described as a “campaign fantasy.” “In the actual address, there was falsehood after falsehood and we have to make sure that we get our facts straight. Everyday immigrants commit crimes at a far lower rate than native-born Americans,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And...

Democrat Senator Kamala Harris made the rounds on ABC Tuesday promoting her new memoir and aiding the media in bashing President Trump for addressing the nation tonight about the need for a southern border wall. Though she did not make a formal announcement if she was going to run for president in 2020, the liberal hosts at The View treated her as if she were already a candidate, comparing her to Hillary Clinton and pleading with her to stop President Trump. Joy Behar also demanded the networks delay and fact-check Trump like CNN does, in tonight's border address. Immediately when...

Scoff at this all you want, but on this point Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sounds more mainstream — and bipartisan — than most would admit. During his 60 Minutes interview with the new House member, Anderson Cooper confronted Ocasio-Cortez with a whopper about Pentagon spending that earned her four Pinocchios at the Washington Post. Ocasio-Cortez replied that being “morally right” means never having to account for facts:

Jack Burkman tweets the following – “The sudden death of my friend 26 year old Bre Payton is beyond strange. She dies just after breaking the story of DOJ wiping the Page-Strozek emails. A Georgia Democratic congressman repeatedly compared President Trump to Adolf Hitler during a fiery speech at a Baptist church in Atlanta this week. The Atlanta NAACP posted video online of Rep. Hank Johnson's speech in which he compared the president to the Nazi leader responsible for the killing of 6 million Jews during World War II. “Much like how Hitler took over the Nazi party, Trump has taken over the Republican Party,” Johnson said Tuesday. At another point, Johnson said, “Hitler was accepting of violence towards the achievement of political objectives. Trump encouraged violence against protesters at his rallies.” The...

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is ripping her fellow Democrats for failing to take up her proposed special climate change committee called the Green New Deal because it was deemed "too controversial." Ocasio-Cortez in a Twitter thread Monday blamed House leadership for rejecting the idea behind the Green New Deal, which aimed to create a plan to get the country on a 100 percent renewable energy electric grid. "A few weeks ago, I joined youth activists in a specific demand for a Green New Deal Committee. It had 3 simple elements: 1. No fossil fuel money on climate cmte 2. Offer solutions...

Democratic Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday afternoon criticized a proposed short-term spending bill that provided $5.7 billion requested by President Donald Trump for border security, stating: “Walls are waste.” “For the wall’s $5.7 billion, every child in America could have access to Universal Pre-K,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, reiterating her position during her campaign in support of universal preschool and boosting funding to schools. “Yet when we propose the SAME $, we’re told Universal Edu is a ‘fantasy’ & asked ‘how are you going to pay for it,’” she continued in her tweet. “Education is an investment in society that yields returns.”

Former President Barack Obama on Wednesday was presented with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Award, which celebrates leaders “who have demonstrated a commitment to social change," the Associated Press reported. “I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but I’ve been on this hope kick for a while now. Even ran a couple of campaigns on it. Thank you for officially validating my hope credentials,” Obama said during his acceptance speech. “If we summon our best selves, we can inspire others to do the same. It’s easy to succumb to cynicism, the notion that hope is a...

FULL TITLE: Unfixable? Several nations have tried to restore democracy after populist strongmen. It was never the same. In April, aided by massive gerrymandering, Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s ruling coalition crushed opposition in Hungary’s national elections, claiming a supermajority in the parliament. The prime minister — who had used two prior terms in office to dominate media outlets, alter electoral rules so that urban areas were massively underrepresented and seize control of the top courts — moved to further consolidate his power. He is pushing Central European University, a leading academic institution backed by George Soros, whom Orban has demonized,...

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the incoming U.S. representative from New York City, has an idea that could make voting easier: Take Columbus Day off the federal holiday list and replace it with Election Day. In a tweet Saturday, the progressive Democrat wondered why Columbus Day is a federal holiday while Election Day, when we engage in perhaps our most important civic duty, is not. Columbus Day, after all, celebrates a man who never actually set foot in what is now the United States and who certainly did not “discover” America. Daily Mail editor David Martosko tried to make a joke about Ocasio-Cortez...

When a Canadian family noticed a group of bears on their property, the father attempted to scare them off by firing a warning shot into the air. Unfortunately, this provoked the mother bear, who charged. Amazingly, the man was able to fire off his last shot, momentarily knocking the beast off her feet and giving him enough time to make it back to safety. He later tracked the bear family, and believes while the mama bear is sore, she’s okay. See the footage of bear attacks.

**SNIP** Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democratic candidate running for a House seat from New York's 14th District, challenged the Trump administration "caravan" narrative and asked supporters to push back against white supremacy in the wake of the Pittsburgh hate crime attack. The 29-year-old Democratic Socialist has repeatedly challenged the talking points of both President Donald Trump and established members of the Democratic Party. But her recent move to refocus her efforts on white supremacist violence rather than "undocumented immigrants" prompted vicious right-wing criticism. Using her social media platforms with hundreds of thousands of followers, Ocasio-Cortez compared how Trump supporters and Americans...
