EAST WINDSOR, NJ (CBS) – A 30-year-old middle school teacher has been arrested on attempted luring charges. Officials in Burlington County say the teacher, Patrick N. McGwier, taught the girl, who is now 15, when she was a student in eighth grade at Memorial Middle School in Willingboro.

School district officials were investigating a photo circulating on social media on Wednesday of a group of cheerleaders from Redlands East Valley High School posing in what appeared to be gang attire. The picture showed some of the girls had stuffed their shirts to look pregnant, while others flashed gang signs and were holding simulated weapons. Reaction to the photo was mixed. One parent commented “it’s really sad,” after viewing the photo on Facebook. Another parent thought it was just a harmless joke. “I think they’re just being teenagers, having fun, being silly,” parent Sherry Garcia said.

A new report from Georgetown University suggests that public school children should be exposed to sexually explicit sex education at age 10 – while their views are still “malleable” – and that schools could lower STD and abortion rates by providing all girls capable of reproduction with “contraceptives and safe abortion” without “parental approval.” The report promotes the sex ed and abortion-on-demand regimen for “Very Young Adolescents (VYAs),” defined as children between the ages of 10 and 14. “Investing in very young adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health” was written by Susan M. Wagoner, Okla. (CBS HOUSTON) – A newly-hired teacher was found intoxicated and not wearing any pants inside an Oklahoma high school classroom on her first day of work, according to Wagoner police. Police arrested Lorie Hill after two Wagoner High School teachers found her intoxicated and without pants in an empty classroom she was claiming to be her own, KOKI-TV reports. Recently hired by Wagoner Public Schools, Hill was reporting for her first day on the job as all teachers were also returning for their first day back in school from summer break.

GERVAIS, Ore. – Unhappy parents have forced an Oregon school board to re-think its plan to begin handing out condoms to students – sixth-graders on up – when school starts up again this fall. During a May meeting, school board members approved a plan in which trained teachers (presumably health teachers) would hand out prophylactics after first having “a discussion with the student,” StatesmanJournal.com reports. NORTH SMITHFIELD – A North Smithfield Middle School teacher was arrested on Thursday, July 24 and has been accused of stealing nearly $7,000 from the School Department. Brian Chuey, 29, of Cranston has been charged with two counts of felony larceny after allegedly stealing $6,866, according to a release from the North Smithfield Police Department. He is being held pending an appearance before a Justice of the Peace.

LORAIN, Ohio — An elementary school teacher has been charged with possession of child pornography according to Steven M.Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. Edward A. Dembiec, 53, of Lorain, Ohio, was charged Friday after a lengthy investigation that found Dembiec possessed the “criminal information on or about October 1, 2008, through May 5, 2013.”

A Middle Township High School teacher turned himself in to the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office on sex assault charges related to crimes against a minor student over the course of a year, Prosecutor Bob Taylor announced today. Joseph Towns, 34, of North Cape May was charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal sexual contact, official misconduct, possession of child pornography and obscenity of persons under 18.

A substitute teacher was arrested for allegedly engaging in sex acts with a 16-year-old girl in a BMW in Hesperia early Sunday, officials said. The pair were discovered by a deputy checking on the black BMW, which authorities said appeared to be suspicious, parked near the intersection of Ivy Avenue and Alder Street. The teacher, 40-year-old Rakshannah Ranney, was engaged in some kind of sexual activity with the girl in the car, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Four fifth-grade girls in Salt Lake City have accused their teacher of touching them inappropriately. James Rolland Carter, 62, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with two second-degree felony counts of sexual abuse of a child and two class A misdemeanor counts of lewdness involving a child. Carter’s school is not identified in the charges, but the address of the allegations matches Lincoln Elementary School. CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - A teacher and former councilman in Camden County faces prison after admitting he engaged in inappropriate sexual communications with 17 male students. Charles Reilly is scheduled to be sentenced Friday after he pleaded guilty to official misconduct, child endangerment and attempted child endangerment.
