Apparently, it’s now both regressive and elitist to do your own cooking. Taking a hobbyish pleasure in preparing a roast is not only insulting to the lower classes who can’t access the same tools, but even worse, it’s gender normative. How dare I, a woman, have opinions about protein content in flour or how many times a chicken breast should be flipped when cooked in a saucepan? It’s so housewife of me. When a mid-sized anonymous Twitter account made the argument on Monday, concluding that the real revolution will not be in home kitchens but in restaurants, the person behind...

A federal inmate was caught sneaking back into a Beaumont prison with a duffle bag full of snacks, fruit, liquor and tobacco Thursday. The U.S. Marshals and Jefferson County Sheriff’s office were acting on a tip when they set up a surveillance operation on private property near the prison. Officers watched as a vehicle drove onto the land and dropped off a large duffle bag. Then, about two hours later, they watched an inmate from The Federal Correctional Complex escaped from the prison and grabbed the duffle. The deputies and marshals descended on the inmate and confiscated the bag. Inside...

April Ryan, White House reporter for American Urban Radio networks and CNN analyst, demanded President Donald Trump’s Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders provide proof she baked a pie she tweeted a photo of on Thanksgiving Day. It started on Thursday with Sanders doing what many Americans did that day–post a photo of their Thanksgiving Day meal, “I dont cook much these days, but managed this Chocolate Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving at the family farm!” Ryan commented late Friday morning making clear she was not joking, demanding Sanders provide proof, and included a jab at Sanders asking reporters earlier this week...

A team of researchers at North Carolina State University published a study challenging the idea that home-cooked meals are ultimately “better” for the family as a whole. […] Their time spent accompanying parents shuttling children to checkups, grocery shopping, and, of course, preparing food, led the team to a set of real world conclusions at odds with stereotypical parenting wisdom. For all of the health benefits associated with food prepared at home, the task presented parents, particularly mothers, with a slew of economic and interpersonal stressors. “One could say that home-cooked meals have become the hallmark of good mothering, stable...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Next up for "Let's Move?" How about "Let's Cook." Michelle Obama said Friday that a new focus of her anti-childhood obesity effort will be to help people cook more of their meals at home because they're healthier. Addressing a health summit in Washington, the first lady said home-cooked meals have less fat, sodium, cholesterol and calories than meals prepared in restaurants — and save money, too.

... and curries, chutneys from India on UAE-bound flights for home-sick expatsHeard the one about the millionaire aboard his yacht in the middle of the Atlantic and felt like his favourite cheeseburger? Well, yeah, he gets a chopper to deliver it to him from his favourite burger joint. The UAE boasts its own version of such foodie 'millionaires' - only it is not a whim and a fancy that drives their overseas orders, but the fact that eatiog out daily becomes a pain and a drain on the pocket for many bachelors who live away from their families. Meet Obaid...

This Thanksgiving I took on the daunting task of making my mother-in-law’s cornbread dressing. This isn’t just ordinary dressing; this is my husband’s very favorite dish. This is “Mamma’s Dressing”. There are entire family stories surrounding this dressing. The outcome of holidays has been determined by this dressing. Forget the presents, forget the company; it was all about the dressing. No pressure.

Does it make me especially country that I have two Aunt Bee's? Just to be clear, this recipe is from Texas Aunt Bee, not Mississippi Aunt Bee. I've had plenty of banana pudding in my time, but this is definitely the best you'll ever stretch your lip over!
