My husband grew up in Pennsylvania, and a generations-old tradition for his family is attending the Bloomsburg Fair, which has been going on since 1855 and was only interrupted for one year, due to Tropical Storm Lee in 2011. My first visit to the Fair was basically my honeymoon - it was the first time that we were able to get away for an extended period in the year that we ran off to the Courthouse and got hitched. I loved the fair, especially the giant prize-winning pumpkin, the trotting horses, the beautiful turkeys and other poultry, and all...

G'mornin folks. There was a thread a day or so back about pistols (Military switching to Glocks). Good thread all in and all. I wanted to post this thread to get some general conversation going about where you shop for your warez, places to "watch out" for and where the good prices are at. Also, tips are welcome on ammo storage, prepping and any items/gear to prolong our sidearms and rifles should "the lights go out".

Last week I was cutting a recipe out of the coupon insert from the Sunday newspaper, and got to thinking about the great recipes I've found that way - either back-of-the-box recipes, those found in the coupon insert, or ones from magazine ads for various prepared food products. I think the Chocolate Ganache Cake recipe that I posted a couple of weeks ago was found the same way; and some of these have become 'American Standby Classics', like the Campbell's Green Bean Casserole. Some of my favorites are the Buffalo Chicken Dip, from Frank's Red Hot; and Frito Salad, the...

New art exhibit will trace humans' captivation with cats throughout history Thanks to the Internet, it can sometimes seem like cats have taken over every aspect of popular culture. Funny videos and goofy photos may be firmly under their furry paws, but now not even fine art seems to be able to resist their feline allure. Now, Massachusetts' Worcester Art Museum is hosting a new exhibition dedicated to cats in art from ancient Egypt all the way up to the modern day. Cat memes might seem like a modern phenomenon, but the expressive animals have intrigued artists for thousands of...
  • The dead water parks at the heart of Disney World Florida

Just east of the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Florida, is a lake. In the middle of Bay Lake is an island that Disney won't let anyone set foot on. That's because Discovery Island is home to an abandoned park that they'd rather nobody saw. Just across the water is another deserted park, River Country. These images show nature reclaiming what Disney left behind. These are the only Disney parks to close permanently. Discovery Island was a nature reserve open between 1974 and 1999 and River Country, a water theme park, operated from 1976 to 2001.
  • Twitter taught Microsoft’s AI chatbot to be a racist a$$hole in less than a day

    The Verge ^ | Mar 24, 2016 | James Vincent
** PROFANITY ALERT ** It took less than 24 hours for Twitter to corrupt an innocent AI chatbot. Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled Tay — a Twitter bot that the company described as an experiment in "conversational understanding." The more you chat with Tay, said Microsoft, the smarter it gets, learning to engage people through "casual and playful conversation." Unfortunately, the conversations didn't stay playful for long. Pretty soon after Tay launched, people starting tweeting the bot with all sorts of misogynistic, racist, and Donald Trumpist remarks. And Tay — being essentially a robot parrot with an Internet connection — started repeating...

(All Photos: Dylan Thuras)On the second floor of a nondescript warehouse owned by New York City's Sanitation Department in East Harlem is a treasure trove—filled with other people's trash. Most of the building is used as a depot for garbage trucks, but there's a secret collection that takes over an entire floor. The space is populated by a mind-bogglingly wide array of items: a bestiary of Tamagotchis, Furbies; dozens of Pez dispensers; female weight lifting trophies; 8-track tapes; plates, paintings, sporting equipment and much more. This is the Treasures in the Trash collection, created entirely out of objects found by Nelson Molina, a now-retired sanitation...

Note: I've posted numerous threads on the "Get Windows 10" nagware situation, and almost passed this one up -- but it's far and away the best I've seen, most complete, and most likely to be accurate. So have at it... - dayglored Subtitle: Here's how to nuke this persistent menace Microsoft uses techniques similar to aggressive malware to promote its “Get Windows 10” offer. As many readers have discovered, the persistent and constantly changing methods Microsoft uses to continually reintroduce its “Get Windows 10” tool, or GWX, onto computers means it’s extremely difficult to avoid. Windows users who decline to...

I've had a recipe for Souffle that I've been wanting to try; it comes from a book called 'Seaport Savories', published by the Junior Auxiliary of the Alexandria Hospital in Virginia. The book appears to be out of print but you can still find it; and it's superior for a cookbook of its kind, with lots of interesting recipes: www.amazon.com/SEAPORT-SAVORIES-Historic-Alexandria-Virginia/dp/0963965204The same organization also has a new book that also looks good: http://www.thetwig.org/web/3805795/19When I made this the other day, I think I discovered why souffle dishes are always round, or round-ish: I was too lazy to dig out the regulation baking...

Facts are overrated when you have passion, a microphone and a camera. Throw in an internet channel, viola, you’re in it to win it, friends. Which is precisely the problem going on at Vox, who released this video claiming LOTZ OF GUNZ SHOOTINGS OMG. Problem is there are too many problems with their entire premise, argument and conclusion. Why? Because Vox has an agenda to push, and as I’ll prove, they will willingly and proactively manipulate data to do it. A test of seven OEM laptops running Windows has shown consistent privacy and security issues, including an interesting revelation that the McAfee Antivirus running on six of them is using web beacons to serve ads and possibly even track users online. The seven laptops – Lenovo Flex 3, Lenovo G50-80 (UK version), HP Envy, HP Stream x360 (Microsoft Signature Edition), HP Stream (UK version), Acer Aspire F15 (UK version), and Dell Inspiron 14 (Canada version) – have been tested by the security research team of Duo Security by simply sniffing the traffic sent from and to them once they have...

It feels like Microsoft has been dangling the "Windows will come to Xbox" carrot for the longest time, but now it appears the company isn't too far away from actually delivering. Speaking with Business Insider at GDC 2016, Xbox product manager Jason Ronald revealed that the company will begin opening its PC and gaming ecosystems to over the course of the year, with Windows 10 apps coming to the Xbox One in the summer. Microsoft's plan is to merge the Xbox Store and Windows Store, which will host apps that can be run on a smartphone, tablet, PC or console....

WHITE — The only thing bigger than his grin was that car. The wife and kids ran out to look. What a sight they beheld: 3,000-plus pounds of steel and iron and glass. And chrome! Chrome on the bumpers, on the hood, along the side and coming to an exquisite point on those finned rear fenders, chrome! In 1957, the Bel Aire was one of Chevy’s marquee machines. The family that sat in its plush seats had arrived. For untold years — a decade maybe, or perhaps longer — their four-door behemoth did it all. Trips to Panama City, church,...
