A few years ago, a group of Iowa Republicans claimed the legitimate 13th Amendment to the Constitution was “missing.” The debate is part of a historical detective story with some surprising twists that is still taking place.

In the winter of 1983, archival research expert David Dodge, and former Baltimore police investigator Tom Dunn, were searching for evidence of government corruption in public records stored in the Belfast Library on the coast of Maine. By chance, they discovered the library's oldest authentic copy of the Constitution of the United States (printed in 1825). Both men were stunned to see this document included a 13th Amendment that no longer appears on current copies of the Constitution. Moreover, after studying the Amendment's language and historical context, they realized the principle intent of this "missing" 13th Amendment was to prohibit...

“Thought crime was not a thing that could be concealed forever. You might dodge successfully for awhile…but sooner or later they were bound to get you.” George Orwell, 1984 “The fact is we are witnessing an all-out drive to impose thought control that seeks to ban the ability—the right—to think or speak for one’s self. Thinking is becoming a crime.” (Globally Acceptable Truth and the Crime of Thinking, Tom DeWeese, Address to the 10th Annual Freedom 21 Conference, 10/16/09) In an article entitled “Dems Undermine Free Speech in Hate Crimes Ploy,” the Washington Examiner exposes the insidious machinations of House...

For approximately 50 some odd years the US had a different 13th amendment than what is currently listed today. Someone would be hard pressed to say the original 13th was never ratified after reading through the historical documents, pictures, and records contained on this site. It passed the Senate on April 27th 1810 by a vote of 26 to 1. It passed the House on May 1st by a vote of 87-3. The 13th’s official ratification date is March 12th, 1819. Virginia was the last state required to ratify it. A good place to start is with the chronology link...

Plaintiffs charge Violations of Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, and a Widespread Corruption As we all learn by the 6th grade, Articles One through Three of the U.S. Constitution make provisions for the three separate and independent branches of the US government: the executive, legislative, and judicial. But how independent and separate are they really? – Three New Jersey residents, Bruce Eden, Barry Weinstein [1] and Steven Rosamilia have filed a lawsuit in the N.J. Superior Court, alleging Democrat party presidential nominees John F. Kerry and John Edwards, and the New Jersey State Democratic Committee, their co-defendant, violated Constitutional...

By Geraldine Hawkins March 7, 2003 The American legal system has been corrupted almost beyond recognition, Judge Edith Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, told the Federalist Society of Harvard Law School on February 28. She said that the question of what is morally right is routinely sacrificed to what is politically expedient. The change has come because legal philosophy has descended to nihilism "The integrity of law, its religious roots, its transcendent quality are disappearing. I saw the movie 'Chicago' with Richard Gere the other day. That's the way the public thinks about lawyers,"...

Ruling: Private logging must comply with ESAPORTLAND (AP) -- A Portland judge recently ruled that Oregon's state forester must hold private landowners to tighter logging regulations. U.S. District Judge Anna J. Brown ruled that the state must ensure that the private logging projects it approves adhere to the federal Endangered Species Act. The ruling was in response to a February lawsuit five conservation groups brought against State Forester James Brown, who reviews all logging in Oregon to see that it complies with the state Forest Practices Act. The five groups said Brown routinely violated the U.S. Endangered Species Act by...

KANSAS CITY -- The Comfort Inn here was the third stop for Freedom Drive, 2002, and the place where Titles of Nobility Amendment (TONA) researcher Suzanne Nevling of San Francisco, California produced a copy of “Military Laws of the United States to which is prefixed the Constitution of the United States.” The book, published under authority of the War Department in 1825, proves that the original 13th Amendment that prohibits Americans from holding Titles of Nobility, was part of the Constitution until it was mysteriously replaced with a new 13th Amendment that banned slavery after the Civil War. “When we...

Lee Kantar lost two moose calves this past weekend. They are just a few among many calves that did not survive their first year in the forests of Maine. Kantar, a moose biologist for the state’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, has only been tracking calves for a few years but early death is a trend he and others can see across the animal's southern range, which stretches through the northern U.S. and Canada. Scientists speculate that young and adult moose alike are plagued by new diseases and parasites. Brain worm and winter ticks, for example, are both worsening...

Conservatives’ attitudes toward climate change and other environmental concerns shift when the issues are reframed in terms more closely aligned with their values, a new study from Oregon State University indicates. Researchers found that people who identified as conservative were more likely to support “pro-environmental” ideals when the issues were framed as matters of obeying authority, defending the purity of nature and demonstrating patriotism. The study underscores the ways in which discussions of important topics are informed by a person’s moral and ideological perspective, said the study’s lead author, Christopher Wolsko, an assistant professor of psychology at OSU-Cascades. “We think...

The internet represents an extraordinary opportunity for democracy. Yet despite the scientific consensus that global warming is real and primarily due to human activity, studies show that only about half the population in some countries with among the highest CO2 emissions per capita understand that human beings are the driving force of our changing climate. Even fewer people are aware of the scientific consensus on this question. Climate Feedback intends to change that. It brings together a global network of scientists who use a new web-annotation platform to provide feedback on climate change reporting. For the first time, Climate Feedback...

QUINAULT tribal members can attest to the urgency of climate change from an up-close and personal perspective. We're being forced to relocate part of our village of Taholah on the Washington coast. Ocean encroachment, increasingly severe storm surges and flooding are forcing more than 1,000 of our people to permanently move to higher ground. Tribes are not primary contributors to weather changes. Blame it on industrial smoke stacks, thousands of cars that clog the freeways and exploiters who destroy natural habitat. But we're often the first to feel the impact because of our proximity and connection with rivers, inland seas...

Cutting down on milk and meat protein are top ways to lower an individual's carbon footprint, said Janet Ranganathan, VP of science and research at the World Resources Institute. She is the lead author of a report published today that explores how dietary changes in the world's wealthiest nations can affect the environment. The average American consumer is eating 83 grams of animal-based protein a day, well above the daily recommended amount of 51 grams. The research calls for bringing that overconsumption back in line with global average levels. Using computer modeling, the report's authors calculated that if 2 billion...

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — An Austin pastor says a cake he ordered from Whole Foods last Thursday had a homophobic slur written on the top when he received it. The attorney for Pastor Jordan Brown says he ordered a cake from the Whole Foods store on Lamar Boulevard with the personalized message "Love Wins," but when he received it said "Love Wins F--." "As a 30-year-old openly gay pastor, I have had to face years of discrimination and judgement for something that I had no control over," Brown says. He explains, that trauma resurfaced Thursday with the incident involving the...
