United Methodist Women are “praying” that Texas and other states will allow mothers to abort their unborn babies and stop trying to ban abortions. An organization of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women recently issued a statement criticizing the Texas heartbeat law and defending abortions. State pro-life leaders said the law, which prohibits abortions once an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detectable, has saved about 3,000 babies’ lives since it went into effect Sept. 1. But the supposedly Christian women’s organization portrayed the law as oppressive, arguing that “women and families need access to the full range of reproductive...

Four Ohio teens face murder charges after allegedly throwing a sandbag from a highway overpass. The bag smashed through the windshield of a car that Marquise Byrd, 22, was riding in last week on Interstate 75 in Toledo. Byrd died from severe head injuries on Friday. Three of the boys charged are 14 years old, and the other is 13. They had already been charged with felonious assault, reports CBS News correspondent Jericka Duncan. Around 10 p.m. last Tuesday, a woman was driving with her friend, Byrd, under an overpass when something came crashing through the passenger-side windshield. She pulled...

The largest demographic of Obama's religious coalition supporters is made up of those who have stated they are not affiliated with a religion. The Public Religion Research Institute's 'American Values Survey' pegs that number to be approximately 23%. The largest percentage that supported Mitt Romney came from white, evangelical Protestants, at 37%.The survey also revealed that Obama supporters are younger, more diverse and more accepting of growing minority groups. Compared to the older, largely Caucasian and fundamentally religious group that supported the Republican candidate, analysts are predicting the demographic supporting Obama will translate into more wins for the Democrats in...

POLICE who worship heathen gods will get eight days off a year to celebrate pagan festivals. They are also in line for thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money in recognition of their status as a “community” of pagans.Home Office chiefs this week gave their backing to the Pagan Police Association which will be entitled to public funding, along the lines of that given to other rank-and-file organisations like the National Black Police Association.Once recognised as a minority, officers will be given time off for the eight annual pagan festivals, including Halloween and the summer solstice.Last year the Home Office introduced...

It was my old friend and mentor, Luigi Barzini, who asseverated, "Americans talk too much." The year was 1978, and I cannot recall the controversy that had aroused him. Luigi's point was that...he thought our jabbering was again obscuring careful thought. He was a great friend of America...He thought we often argued garrulously about things that were not worth the argument. A case is about to be tried in the Supreme Court that fits Luigi's diagnosis. The American Civil Liberties Union filed a suit in 2001 demanding that a 7-foot cross erected in the California desert in 1934 commemorating sacrifices...

Yes he leans left. But MSNBC host Chris Matthews was manifestly offended by the Mexican audience at the Miss Universe pageant that booed Miss USA. The Mexicans were adding insult to injury, since the lovely and gracious Rachel Smith of Tennessee had earlier slipped onto her derrière during the evening gown segment of the competititon. Discussing the matter on this afternoon's Hardball with his panel of NBC political director Chuck Todd, Howard Fineman of Newsweek, and Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Tribune, Matthews unleashed on the Mexicans: That's about the worst PR I can think of for this Mexican immigration...

The US government is on the verge of approving a mass amnesty to millions of illegal aliens - a plan pushed aggressively by meddling Mexican officials who reap billions of dollars in remittances (illegal aliens' earnings sent back to Mexico) without having to lift a finger to clean up their own country. And the thanks we get? Internationally televised public humiliation. --SNIP-- During an Olympics qualification soccer match between the US and Mexico (Guadalajara 2004), the stadium erupted in boos during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner." Fans yelled "Osama! Osama!" as Mexico's team eliminated the US squad. At a...

Dear Mexico, Screw off. After your little stunt the other night, booing Miss USA at the Miss Universe contest, all of us up here in the real America have one simple message for you: Get busy edging the sidewalks. Or washing the dishes. Or selling the drugs and joining the street gangs. Or whatever it is you people do that real Americans won’t. Sure, we admire your ability to squeeze 17 people into a minivan, and nobody can fit an extended family into a duplex like you guys, but when it comes to decency and hospitality, you act like savages. Let...

Long Night’s Journey Into Day People often ask me just exactly when I stopped being a liberal and, depending on their own political persuasion, saw the light or sold my soul to the devil. My fellow conservatives assume I had something akin to an epiphany. Liberals simply wonder if I suffered a head injury in a traffic accident. When I fail to come up with anything specific, I can invariably read disappointment in their eyes. The truth is that it was a fairly gradual process. I grew up in a typical middle-class Jewish home, the third son of Russian immigrant...

It is almost impossible to overstate how radically different Old Testament thought was from the thought of the rest of its contemporary world. And it continues to be, given how few societies affirm Judeo-Christian values and how much opposition to them exists in American society, the society that has most incorporated these values. Among the most radical of these differences was the incredible declaration that God is outside of nature and is its creator. In every society on earth, people venerated nature and worshipped nature gods. There were gods of thunder and gods of rain. Mountains were worshipped, as were...

A CHRISTMAS LETTER TO ANTI-CHRISTIANS Behind The Lines Dr. Jack Wheeler Wednesday, December 22, 2004 Merry Christmas. If that offends you, why should I care? It’s your problem, not mine. Let me explain your problem a little more fully. America is a Christian country. It’s your job to deal with that, because you’re not going to change this fact. America has always been a Christian country, and – open wide now, because you’re going to have to swallow this – it will continue to be. It will continue to be because most Americans aren’t Euroweenies. They haven’t lost the moral...
