Oakland, Calif., is investigating nooses that were found hanging on trees as a hate crime, Mayor Libby Schaff (D) said Wednesday. Schaff said several nooses were found on trees around Lake Merritt and were removed. A war memorial in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been vandalized with red paint on Memorial Day. A Philadelphia mail carrier was assaulted by a group of young males late Thursday as he waited for the subway during his commute home, officials said.
