California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday signed a law that will make the state the first to allow employers, co-workers and teachers to seek gun violence restraining orders against other people. The bill was vetoed twice by former governor Jerry Brown, a Democrat, and goes beyond a measure that he signed allowing only law enforcement officers and immediate family members to ask judges to temporarily take away peoples’ guns when they are deemed a danger to themselves or others. They were among 15 gun-related laws Newsom approved as the state strengthens what the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence calls...

Just this week, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on banning assault weapons. Yet, the response from the Republican administration has been deafening silence, leaving millions of American gun owners like myself powerless against the continual assault to our constitutional liberties. Mr. Trump and the Republican Party at large haven’t done gun owners any favors. The administration has managed to ban possession of “bump stocks” by administrative fiat, making felons out of tens of thousands of gun owners overnight. It also supported state efforts to implement red flag laws, restrict the gun rights of young adults, and threatened gun...

Walmart said Tuesday it will discontinue all sales of handgun ammunition and sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition that can be used with military-style weapons, following two “horrific” shootings at Walmart stores this summer. It will also stop all handgun sales in Alaska, marking its complete exit from the handguns category. The biggest retailer in the world also is asking customers at Walmart and Sam’s Club to no longer openly carry firearms in stores, in states where “open carry” is allowed, unless they are authorized law enforcement officers. Open carry legislation is currently on the books in more than 26 states,...

What a surprise it must be to Texas State Rep. Matt Schaefer that a tweet he posted launched an attack from Hollywood actress and political activist Alyssa Milano. Senator Ted Cruz jumped into the fray and just like that, Milano is challenging Cruz to a debate.I’m guessing that Milano has never heard of Texas State Rep. Schaefer but he came out strongly against the gun confiscation fever dreams uttered by Beto O’Rourke, and other Democrats, over the Labor Day weekend. His thread on Twitter is not an unexpected response for a conservative politician in Texas. Milano saw it and...

In the wake of recent terrorist attacks, liberal politicians preach taking guns away from everyone except people whom they control, like the police. Conservatives advocate putting guns into the hands of good guys. In the process, we are losing sight of our deadliest enemy: radical Muslims. Liberals tell us our most deadly enemy is the white male. Liberals have popular phrases to summarize this enemy, such as "white privilege" and "toxic masculinity." If they really hate white males so much, they should stop using the electric light bulb, made practical by Thomas Edison; nuclear power, whose theory was developed in...

The Second Amendment guarantees American citizens the right to bear arms, but both federal and state governments determine how citizens may legally exercise that right. And while both federal and state gun control laws regularly change, laws at the state level change more frequently and often without the media coverage that surrounds changes at the federal level. This results in a constant challenge for gun owners to keep up with the latest state laws, especially for those who carry their weapons across state lines. Because while some states have more restrictions than others, state gun control policies across the country...

A handful of Democratic Senators signed onto an amicus curiae brief in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. City of New York, defending New York City's blatant attack on the Second Amendment. For years, those who live in NYC could transport handguns, as long as it was to a few select gun ranges in the area. If you were a gun owner in NYC and wanted to take your firearm outside of city limits to a different gun range, that wasn't allowed. The Senators who signed alongside New York City include Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), Mazi Hirono (HI), Richard Blumenthal (CT),...

Editor's Note: The column was co-authored by Lori Roman. America’s founders understood that the right to own firearms — the right to use effectual force to defend oneself, one’s family, one’s neighborhood, one’s nation — was the difference between a mere subject and a free, independent, equal citizen. The United States was designed to enjoy a government of, by, and for the people, as President Lincoln put it. To that end every citizen was entitled, and often required, to own firearms. On the frontier, defending the community was the responsibility of every man.For black communities, however, the threat has rarely...

The FBI released 34 pages of notes, known as “302s,” of its 2016 and 2017 interviews with Bruce Ohr, the DOJ official who met with the British dossier author Christopher Steele and opposition research firm Fusion GPS’s Glen Simpson. Ohr’s wife, Nellie Ohr, worked for Fusion GPS throughout the 2016 presidential campaign, when they were hired by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Convention. The FBI was sued by the watchdog group Judicial Watch to comply with their requests for access to the notes via Freedom of Information Act. Read the documents below:

Washington, DC — The American Firearms Coalition has just released an online poll of more than 20,000 gun owners conducted over the last 18 hours indicating that 65% of gun owners say they will not vote for President Trump if he signs “Red Flag Gun Confiscation” into law.

A Spartanburg County judge declined to dismiss a lawsuit this week against Academy Sports and the man who supplied guns to serial killer Todd Kohlhepp. Judge Mark Hayes denied a motion to dismiss filed by attorneys representing Academy Ltd., in July. Cindy Coxie, the mother of Johnny Coxie, filed the suit in December 2018, alleging that the store “failed to live up to its duties,” required by federal firearms laws in selling guns to Dustan Lawson. Lawson, who provided Kohlhepp with multiple firearms, was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison in September 2018, after pleading guilty earlier...

One week after celebrating Independence Day, a group of American women are heading to Washington D.C. It’s a nonpartisan initiative to bring 50 women from 50 states to dispel the common myths and garner support for gun rights. This no ordinary group of women, and I am honored to be one of them. We are from different backgrounds and represent the same diversities found everywhere in the U.S. From law enforcement officers, competitive shooters, single moms, business owners, survivors of violent crimes, LGBTQ, former military, housewives, and students, we find commonality through our dedication to the Constitution and the Second...

Some of the usuals anti-gun suspects in the Senate have proposed new legislation that would ban suppressors following a shooting in Virginia Beach, Va., in which the perpetrator a handgun fitted with the device. But the problem is, this particular accessory is already one of the most regulated by the federal government. The Help Empower Americans to Respond (HEAR) Act is being introduced by Democratic Sens. Bob Menendez (NJ), Dianne Feinstein (CA), Richard Blumenthal (CA) and Tim Kaine (VA), all of whom claim — wrongly — that suppressors are ‘silencers’ in the true sense of the word and that as...

Last fall, The Advocate reported on a new type of local sanctuary law being passed in counties around Oregon, known broadly as “Second Amendment sanctuary” laws. They give local law enforcement officials like sheriffs the authority to interpret whether state and federal gun laws conflict with the Second Amendment of the Constitution, and allows them to restrict local resources from being used to enforce conflicting laws. Eight Oregon counties passed a version of this law in last November’s elections: Baker, Columbia, Douglas, Klamath, Lake, Linn, Umatilla and Union. Two counties, Lincoln and Jackson, rejected it. Supporters believe they are a...

The Pennsylvania supreme court rules that legal gun owners aren’t second-class constitutional citizens. SCOTUS, take note. Earlier this week, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court delivered a message that the United States Supreme Court desperately needs to hear: The lawful exercise of your Second Amendment rights does not make you a second-class citizen. Here’s the context. For the last two years, federal courts — including, sadly, the Supreme Court — have endorsed a legal regime where police can use even the lawful exercise of gun rights as a pretext for the violation of other constitutional rights, principally our Fourth Amendment right against...

Well, the debate is over. The voting is done. And the bill has been signed into law. Florida will now permit armed teachers in the classroom. It’s a win for gun rights advocates. Florida is still reeling from the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland from last year, where shooter Nikolas Cruz shot and killed 17 people. It’s the reality we live in, folks. Since we’re not going to repeal the Second Amendment or enact a policy of confiscation, everything must be on the table to keep schools safe. Also, we cannot forget that America is not...

A vigil for the victims of the STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting in Colorado that was organized by Team ENOUGH, part of the gun control group Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, prompted a walkout by students opposing what they viewed as politicization of the tragedy. 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America activists made remarks that prompted some students to leave. Students then held their own vigil outside and chanted "mental health" in response to the calls for more gun control.

A remedy to the wave of lawlessness overwhelming Chicago is suggested by the story told to police there by a victim of an attempted carjacking. Assuming that the story checks out, Illinois ought to consider easing its draconian gun control laws to permit more concealed carry permits to be issued, and thereby deter crime. From the Chicago Tribune A man with a concealed carry permit told police he shot and killed another man who ran into the back of his BMW in the Loop and then demanded the keys to the car at gunpoint early Friday, authorities said. The...

Conservatives are continuing to push back against Leftist Democrat attempts around the country and in Washington to impose new gun control legislation. In North Carolina, Cherokee County has become the latest jurisdiction to take a page from the illegal alien sanctuary movement and declare itself a “gun sanctuary.” The county becomes at least the 60th around the country where local governments have voiced opposition to encroaching gun control laws by stating they won’t actively enforce federal gun laws if they are in conflict with their definition of the Second Amendment’s “infringement” clause. The Cherokee County Board voted 3-2 in favor...
