Dive Brief: Skanska USA Civil Southeast has turned to the federal courts in an attempt to eliminate or significantly reduce its liability for damages caused by barges that broke loose from the $430 million Pensacola Bay Bridge construction project during Hurricane Sally in August by having its barges recognized as vessels protected under maritime law. In five separate filings each covering a different barge, Skanska asked the U.S. District Court in Pensacola, Florida, to declare that it is not liable "for any loss, injuries or damages" related to barge damage, including economic losses suffered by businesses from the closure of...

GULF BREEZE, Fla. (WKRG) - The newly-elected mayor of Gulf Breeze has resigned amid an inappropriate texting scandal. David Landfair sent a letter to the city council and citizens of Gulf Breeze this afternoon. News 5 was able to obtain a copy of the letter from South Santa Rosa News. It reads in part: "I must admit to an error in judgment by engaging in inappropriate texting with an adult woman. I have caused embarrassment to my family, friends and supporters, and I do not wish to spend my term as mayor defending my texting or dragging the City into...

Thank you for your help during this busy election cycle. It paid off in a big way! Galveston County Republicans not only picked up two more county-wide seats, but also helped get President George W. Bush reelected and increased the Republican majority in both the U.S. and State Senate and House of Representatives. It's was time to celebrate and we did! We had a grand 'ole celebration party on Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Wayne Johnson Community Center at Carbide Park. Carbide Park is located at 4102 Main Street (FM 519) in LaMarque, Texas. Was glad to see all...

I don't normally "do" vanities. Heck, I rarely post articles. But I absolutely have to get some attention to what Hurricane Ivane did to Pensacola and some of the nearby communities. The landscape has changed. Tens of thousands are now without homes or businesses. Roads needed for resupply are out. Power is out and food supplies for many miles are threatened. Grocery stores don't have power. Power may take weeks to restore, water 6 weeks or more.

County Republican Chairwoman Sandra Kelly lost hold of the party’s reins Tuesday in a lopsided defeat to Chris Stevens. Stevens, a Dickinson piping designer, took 63.2 percent of the vote in a light turnout. Democratic voters elected Tony Buzbee to remain chairman of the county party, a post he’s held since being appointed by the precinct chairs last year to replace the retiring Mary Ellen Brennan. Buzbee, a Friendswood attorney, beat challenger Robert Hutchins, a Dickinson insurance salesman, by capturing 59.8 percent of the vote. Republican voters in the North County also sent two constable races to an April 13...
