JOHN DAY-Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer has opened a new front in his fight against allegations that he supported armed militants, notifying John Day city officials that he intends to sue over their complaints to the state about his conduct. Palmer, 54, said in a tort claim received by............... Palmer said in his tort claim that the dispatchers falsely concluded who his rider was. Palmer said he believed dispatchers called a police command post in Burns to alert law enforcement officials that Palmer was headed towards Harney County with a milita member.......

Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer, facing criminal investigation and possible action against his police certificate, Tuesday moved to set up a legal defense fund. Such a fund, which requires state approval, would allow Palmer to take contributions for attorneys and other costs. Palmer is the target of 10 complaints filed with the state Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. They accuse Palmer of violating standards for police officers in his dealings with self-proclaimed militia members. One complaint said his conduct put the safety of his rural county in jeopardy.....

.....The state Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer, who met with militants from the wildlife refuge takeover in eastern Oregon and urged authorities to concede to some of their demands. The investigation will be handled by the Criminal Justice Division in Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum's office. The division investigates public corruption as part of its duties.
