For the first time since its launch in 1957, the National Health Interview Survey in 2013 and 2014 included a question about sexual orientation. The alleged gay lover of Orlando nightclub gunman Omar Mateen claims he did the shooting as “revenge” against Latino men. “I’ve cried like you have no idea. But the thing that makes me want to tell the truth is that he didn’t do it for terrorism. In my opinion he did it for revenge,” the man who said he was Mateen’s lover for two months told Univision.

As Orlando continues to reel a week after the worst mass shooting in US history consumed the city in tragedy, one Chicago man is traveling thousands of miles to deliver comfort. Greg Zanis, 65, drove 1,200 miles from his home to the Orlando Regional Medical Center to deliver 49 wooden crosses he made by hand. Each of the three-foot-tall white crosses bears the name of the 49 victims who were murdered at the gay nightclub Pulse during Latin night on June 12.
