The Marion County coroner has determined that an Avon girl died from a rare bacteria that took over her body. Doctors didn't know what was wrong with Sarah Backlund when she was taken to Methodist Hospital Saturday night, RTV6's Camille Amiri reported. Doctors amputated Backlund's arm, hoping to get rid of the infection, but it was too late. The 16-year-old Avon High School sophomore died the next day. The bacteria that caused Backlund's death was determined to be clostridia septicum, also known as gangrene.
