A plan to ban "frequent and large gatherings at neighborhood homes" is a lawsuit waiting to happen, a Fairfax County supervisor predicts. Officials will get an idea Wednesday when public-comment hearings begin in Virginia's most populous county. "I believe the county is risking a lawsuit and/or a Constitution challenge by interfering with peoples' right to assemble," Supervisor Pat Herrity said in a statement.

All in all, it was a typical George W. Bush visit. But there's a slight twist. People in western Wisconsin, who hold to the refreshingly naive notion that they live in a republic as opposed to an imperial realm, are objecting. "There's a pattern of harassment of free speech...

HONOLULU (AP) - A federal judge ruled Monday that the exclusive Kamehameha Schools may continue its Hawaiians-only admissions policy, rejecting a discrimination complaint from a student who said the policy violated his civil rights. U.S. District Judge Alan Kay said the admissions policy passed muster because of the school's unique historical circumstances. Since the private school receives no federal funding, it should not be held to the same scrutiny as public schools, Kay said. The school's trustees, sitting behind their attorneys, cried and hugged each other after the decision, while outside the federal courthouse, several hundred Hawaiian activists wearing red...
