WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley will announce on Tuesday that the United Sates is pulling out of the United Nations Human Rights Council, a Trump administration source told Reuters. The United States is half-way through a three-year term on the main U.N. rights body and had long threatened to quit if it was not reformed, accusing the 47-member Geneva-based body of being anti-Israel. Reuters reported last week that activists and diplomats said talks with the United States on reforms had failed to meet Washington’s demands, suggesting that...

NEW YORK — In its extensive report on the Hillary Clinton email probe, the Justice Department’s internal watchdog raised significant questions about why the FBI did not examine the contents of Clinton aide Huma Abedin’s private email accounts and did not seek to obtain Abedin’s personal devices to determine whether classified information was exchanged. The report noted Abedin should have been a point of interest since the FBI obtained from other sources classified email exchanges between Clinton and Abedin that were missing from the 30,490 emails turned over to the State Department by Clinton’s attorneys. Clinton had claimed the remaining...

SNIP Under current law, unaccompanied minors from Central America are automatically referred to the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services, which works to place them with family members already residing in the United States while they await a court date. Unaccompanied minors from Mexico, however, are treated differently, and can be screened for immediate return to their home country by U.S. Border Patrol if they do not present human trafficking or refugee concerns. “There isn’t really a policy rationale for treating them differently,”a second White House official said Tuesday, arguing that the current system is allowing too...

Tens of thousands of children unaccompanied by parents or relatives are flooding across the southern U.S. border illegally, forcing the Obama administration and Congress to grapple with both a humanitarian crisis and a budget dilemma. An estimated 60,000 such children will pour into the United States this year, according to the administration, up from about 6,000 in 2011. Now, Washington is trying to figure out how to pay for their food, housing and transportation once they are taken into custody. The flow is expected to grow. The number of unaccompanied, undocumented immigrants who are under 18 will likely double in...

1. We’re splitting up children from their parents! Are you an American citizen? Well, if you commit a serious crime tomorrow, you will be separated from your children. Try taking your kid with you to commit a bank robbery and see how far you get arguing that you should be able to take junior with you to Leavenworth. Speaking of which, what kind of idiots want to put 10-year-olds in detention centers with their parents and any random person we catch on the border? It’s a stupid idea that people push so they can virtue signal. “Oh, I’m such a...

The regime’s actions over decades show that conquering South Korea has been its No. 1 goal. Let’s hope that has changed. President Trump should be given credit for his ambitious goal for North Korea, whether or not the goal is achieved. Sadly, I expect the administration to fall short of the finish line. Conventional wisdom has it that Kim Jong-un’s objective is the survival of his regime. That’s not so. Since the post–World War II creation of the Democratic Republic of Korea, the Kim family regime has sought one objective: conquest of South Korea by any means to unify the...

The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who've crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there's plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,...

Canada is one step closer to full marijuana legalization. Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said last month, “We are very much focused on the control and legalization of marijuana, because the current system is not working.” This past Thursday marked a day in Canadian history... The Canadian Senate passed legislation that would legalize recreational use of marijuana. The Senate approved the legislation 56 to 30 in a late-night vote. This vote has cleared one of the biggest obstacles for full legalization. Now the country is on the path to permitting national use of marijuana. It’s still unclear when recreational weed...

A new copyright law from the European Union would lead to the banning of memes on the internet, campaigners are warning. However, campaigners are warning the law will require “all content uploaded to the internet to be monitored and potentially deleted if a likeness to existing copyright is protected”. The campaign against a particular provision of the directive, Article 13, warns that online platforms would be economically damaged if they were forced to comply with its expensive obligations. The law...

Robinson, also a former U.N. climate envoy, said women were most adversely affected by disasters and yet are rarely "put front and center" of efforts to protect the most vulnerable. "Feminism doesn't mean excluding men,...

A journalist at the daily White House press briefing Monday played an audio tape of crying illegal immigrant children while Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was defending the administration’s policy of separating families who enter the country illegally.
