LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Three UCLA basketball players accused of shoplifting in China apologized Wednesday before coach Steve Alford announced they were being suspended indefinitely. LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley were described as "good young men" by Alford at a campus news conference. The coach said the trio wouldn't be allowed to suit up, practice or travel with the team while the university continues to sort out the circumstances of last week's incident in Hangzhou, China. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two University of Louisville football players were reportedly shot Sunday morning at an off-campus apartment. The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Manor Park Drive near The Retreat apartment community. Officers found a male and female shot. Both were taken to University Hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.-snip-Sources close to the team tell WDRB News that junior linebacker James Hearns and sophomore linebacker Henry Famurewa were shot at a party at the apartment near the university. Only days after a sexual assault verdict against two high school football players in Ohio, a small town in Connecticut finds itself split by a situation with many similarities. In Steubenville, Ohio, the players were accused of raping an underage victim, and convicted March 18. In Connecticut, Torrington High School football players Edgar Gonzalez and Joan Toribio, both 18, stand accused of the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. And, as in the Ohio case, it's the accusers who are under attack via social media.

Linemen spend much of their offseason lifting weights to try and build up as much strength as possible. It's part and parcel of the identity of playing along football's front line. Still, three members of the Forest Park (Ind.) High offensive line took those feats of strength a bit further on Saturday, when they lifted and flipped an overturned, burning pickup truck to save a pregnant woman who was trapped inside.
