Regem venturum Dominum, venite, adoremus. Come, let us adore the King our Lord, who is to come. De Isaia Propheta. From the Prophet Isaias. Cap. i. Ch. i. Lavamini, mundi estote; auferte malum cogitationum vestrarum ab oculis meis: quiescite agere perverse, discite benefacere; quærite judicium, subvenite oppresso, judicate pupillo, defendite viduam. Et venite, et arguite me, dicit Dominus. Si fuerint peccata vestra ut coccinum, quasi nix dealbabuntur; et si fuerint rubra quasi vermiculus, velut lana alba erunt. Wash yourselves, be clean, take away the evil of your devices from my eyes: cease to do perversely, Learn to do well:...

Violet Privileged Sunday of the First Class—Semi-double THIS SUNDAY, the first of the ecclesiastical year, is called, in the chronicles and charts of the Middle Ages, Ad te levavi Sunday, from the first words of the Introit; or Aspiciens a longe, from the first words of one of the Responsories of Matins. The Station is at St. Mary Major’s. It is under the auspices of Mary—in the splendid Basilica which possesses the Crib of Bethlehem, and is therefore called, in ancient documents, St. Mary’s ad Præsepe—that the Roman Church recommences, each year, the sacred Cycle. It would have been...

American conservative leaders welcomed President Donald Trump’s tweet suggesting to Republicans that they immediately repeal Obamacare first and then work together to replace it later. On a media conference call Friday morning, national conservative group leaders overwhelmingly applauded Trump’s suggestion and rebuked GOP leaders for introducing Obamacare “replacement” legislation that they say simply continues former President Barack Obama’s disastrous healthcare reform. The leaders made clear to Republicans that they hold power in both chambers of Congress largely because the conservative base elected them to repeal Obamacare and put GOP leaders on notice that their draft healthcare bill is costing them...

OK everyone. Trump is our president. He's now about 10% done with his first term. How has he done thus far, in your view?

Dear Freepers, I have compiled a list of Trump's accomplishments in the last month. I want to publish this in our local weekly newspaper in response to an anti-Trump editorial. Please let me know if I need to add or change anything. (Jim Robinson's original list of Trump's promises was my inspiration). Thank you!

What would you rather see from President Trump first? Broad Tax Cuts or Obamacare Repeal

The Chinese put China first. The Russians put Russia first. Israelis believe in Israel first. So, what’s wrong with Americans seeking to put our country before a faceless, vacuous globalism that has eaten away at our manufacturing base, taken the lives of our best and brightest overseas, and threatened our standard of living for decades? According to neoconservatives like Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol, apparently a lot. Kristol let out a tweetstorm before and during Donald Trump’s “America First” themed inauguration speech Friday, highlighted by this gem: "I'll be unembarrassedly old-fashioned here: It is profoundly depressing and vulgar to hear...

(Snip) "Donald Trump's Contract With The American Voter." What follows is my 100-day action plan to Make America Great Again. It is a contract between myself and the American voter — and begins with restoring honesty, accountability and change to Washington Therefore, on the first day of my term of office, my administration will immediately pursue the following six measures to clean up the corruption and special interest collusion in Washington, DC: * FIRST, propose a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress; * SECOND, a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce federal workforce...

The headlines for the last 24 hours have been about a certain milestone having been achieved in America. (SNIP) First time a major political party has nominated a woman who helped Russia acquire 20% of America’s uranium supply. It’s the first time a major political party has nominated an amateur cattle futures trader with 100% accuracy after having read the Wall Street Journal. First time a major political party has nominated a lawyer who defended a child rapist and laughed about it. First time a major political party has nominated a lawyer who was kicked off the Watergate committee due...

After tapping into solar, wind, geothermal and now natural gas resources on post, Fort Knox has become the first U.S. military installation to go “off the grid.” The installation announced Wednesday it added 28 natural gas wells to its arsenal of energy-creating sources which already includes almost 6,000 geothermal wells, two wind turbines and 3.59 megawatts of solar panels. With the additions, Fort Knox will be able to produce more energy than it needs — about 44 megawatts a day. It typically uses about 20 daily, but has approached 50 before, officials said. With that kind of power, when Hardin...

Woman in online relationship beats man with bat at first meeting because she didn't want to date him anymore. One of the most admirable things about Europe is that most (if not all) of the right-wing rhetoric that you hear in the US is explicitly against the law there. For example, attempting to link Islam with terrorism, saying that gay marriage isn’t really marriage, or saying that trans women aren’t really women would get you charged with discrimination and/or incitement to hatred. Numerous European public figures have been charged with hate crimes for implying that large-scale immigration is connected to higher crime. In fact, a politician in Sweden was prosecuted for hate crimes for posting statistics about immigrant crime...

Scientists working on Europe's Planck satellite say the first stars in the Universe lit up later than was previously thought. The team has made the most precise map of the "oldest light" in the cosmos. Earlier observations of this radiation had suggested that the first generation of stars burst into life about 420 million years after the Big Bang. The new Planck data now indicates they fired up around 560 million years after the Universe got going. "This difference of 140 million years might not seem that significant in the context of the 13.8-billion-year history of the cosmos, but proportionately...

US Senate to Protect the Media Monopoly's Right to Corrupt Presidential Elections  An apocryphal story from the good old 1960s tells of $3 million found under the bed of a deceased congressman, with the question automatically asked, at that time, “how does an honest, $50,000 per year congressman accumulate that kind of money?†These days, newspapers don’t blink at the President’s $10 net worth—chump change compared with the $100s millions accumulated by the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, remuneration for—speaker’s fees.  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, slumming at only $3 million to $10 million, made hay clamoring for public...

Alison Spann was just 9 when she learned her father, a U.S. Marine-turned CIA operative, had become the first American killed in the war in Afghanistan. Thirteen years later, she found out her country had freed the Taliban leader behind his death. In the time between, Spann has cherished the memory of her father, Johnny Micheal “Mike” Spann, who was killed during a Nov. 25, 2001 prisoner uprising at a northern Afghanistan compound where he was interrogating Taliban fighters. The 32-year-old was buried at Arlington National Cemetery in a ceremony in which he was lauded by then-CIA Director George Tenet...

The professional press corps has been frozen out of Michelle Obama's swing through China. But the White House has partnered with CNN to bring in amateurs. Katie Hawkins-Gaar, a CNN editor, coordinated the effort to solicit and accumulate submissions from "iReporters" interested in asking questions about the "importance of students learning from one another's cultures," Mrs. Obama's stated emphasis for this trip. The White House's webpage dedicated to the first lady's trip describes the "assignment" as follows: CNN iReport Assignment: iReporters in the U.S. and around the world have submitted questions for the First Lady about study abroad. Stay tuned to watch Mrs. Obama answer...
